Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp experiencing outages today

Luckily, mass outages with major social media platforms are unlikely to last long and normal service on all of the websites should soon be resumed.

And as you might expect, this includes social media apps for Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp.

Issues are being reported across the world, according to the tracking website Down Detector.

The Facebook issue appears to be specific to certain features.

Both Instagram and WhatsApp are owned by Mark Zuckerberg run parent company Facebook.

It's unclear what caused issues on Twitter and Facebook apps.

Facebook says it's already working on resolving these problems, albeit no specifics have been provided on what exactly is happening and who is affected.

The company didn't immediately respond to CNET's request for additional comment. The first occurred back in March in an incident that Facebook later blamed on "a server configuration change".

On Twitter, people are voicing outrage.

Many took to rival platform Twitter to highlight the problem, with the top three trending hashtags all related to the outage.

"Seems very selective on what loading and what's not. Guess they are struggling", wrote one person on Downdetector.com.

Users on Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram are saying that they have had trouble seeing and uploading pictures on the services.

Another person speculated: "July is the month that FB starts charging for pics". Well, you aren't the only one.

Added another, "I guess Facebook is just taking the day off, in honor of tomorrow's holiday?" Pages are slow to load and many images on individual profiles aren't showing up.
