Robert Mueller, who served as special counsel, said in a report released in April that investigators were unable to establish that Trump or his campaign associates conspired with Russian Federation to influence the 2016 election. He does not plan to speak anymore on his investigation on Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and obstruction of Justice by President Donald Trump.
Nancy Pelosi stalled, saying that although Democrats were "on the path" to impeach the president, she wanted to make sure the case was "iron clad" before moving forward. Ms Pelosi has so far resisted the idea, arguing that it would be counter-productive.
It appeared to be the first time that Mr Trump accepted claims by U.S. intelligence chiefs that Russian government meddling aided his stunning upset victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. Cyber-security experts have said that USA election systems and presidential campaigns are still vulnerable to attack, and have also warned that Russian trolls are likely to try influencing US elections again.
As a result, critics who are hoping for Trump's impeachment should not celebrate just yet; it doesn't guarantee nor preclude his removal from office.
On Thursday, Mueller spoke out publicly about his investigation for the first time. They don't know the facts.
IN mayor Pete Buttigieg tweeted: "This is as close to an impeachment referral as it gets". She also reiterated that impeachment would likely "divide the country" when the goal should be to "try to bring people together". Based on past experience, when in our lifetime has our so-called government ever held the self-important political, judicial and government elites accountable to the rule of law, much more the Constitution?
"We need to start impeachment proceedings", Harris said.
Dean serves on the Judiciary Committee, which is steeped in the impeachment debate, and she is among those calling for an impeachment inquiry. He called impeachment a "dirty, filthy, disgusting word" and said courts would never allow it. The unredacted passages in that version of the Mueller report were redacted in its public release for the same reasons, and by the same people. Simply put, the special council's office couldn't charge President Trump with any crimes because Justice Department policy prohibits indicting a sitting president.
At the same time, the House is trying on other fronts to hold Attorney General William Barr and others in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with subpoena requests for documents and testimony. "And the Department of Justice has confirmed that there was no collusion, no obstruction".
Though Kimmel eventually moved on from the Mueller investigation, he still wasn't finished dissecting Trump.
Mueller's initial report had previously found that whilst there was not enough direct evidence to accuse the president of a criminal conspiracy, nevertheless, he was not completely exonerated. "It did not reflect the views of the department". Instead, he highlighted in bold what he views as the key points of almost two years of work.
Mueller's report has forced Trump to acknowledge Russia's impact on the election.
"The use of foreign intelligence capabilities and counterintelligence capabilities against an American political campaign to me is unprecedented and it's a serious red line that's been crossed", Barr said in an interview with CBS.
Barr also flirted with a conservative talking point regarding an ominous "deep state" presence at the Federal Bureau of Investigation that was out to get Trump in 2016.
In the end, by-the-book Robert Mueller departed wildly from the book.
These investigations can be both good news and bad news for the President, says Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia's Miller Center.
