The Bucks drained a club playoff record 20 three-pointers and clamped down defensively, seizing control with 35 points in the third quarter in a game in which they led by as many as 30 points.
In this game the Bucks held a four-point halftime lead that was made possible by Khris Middleton's excellent performance. Once Antetokounmpo heats up, the Bucks are hard to stop, as Khris Middleton and Eric Gordon each have the potential to score over 20 points.
It was the complete opposite of Game 1 when those 3-pointers weren't dropping for the Bucks and the Celtics kept Antetokounmpo out of rhythm.
Irving shot 4-of-18 from the field, finishing with 9 points.
Game 3 will head to Boston on Friday and Irving is relishing the battle against the top-seeded Bucks. Tatum got into early foul trouble, missed some open looks that he usually makes, and just disappeared in the second half. What people don't remember is that the play was actually designed for Kyrie to go one on one.
"I think when we're us that's when we're at our best", Budenholzer said on Monday afternoon. Though, the C's took their dominant, 112-90, series-opening win with caution, knowing that it was only a matter of time before the Bucks' offensive studs would discover a rhythm. Bledsoe went from scoring six points in Game 1 to 21 points in Game 2. That's not a formula that will win many games in this series for the Celtics. "We have to do a better job on him". This is what Boston traded for me for. "This is the type of basketball you want to be playing at this time of year". We have to do a better job on him. Game 2 is Wednesday night in Denver.
"I'm just going out there and just being me", said Irving, according to Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe. And the oddsmakers are not asking us to lay down too many points to get the home team, which showed us just a few days ago they can beat Milwaukee. "He got too many looks where he was too open".
As Brad Stevens went on to point out, the team with more urgency won on Tuesday night. Mirotic finished with nine points and nine rebounds in 25 minutes. Milwaukee's starters were effective, Coach Bud actually made a few major adjustments, and the Celtics offense had trouble figuring out the evolved Bucks' defense. At some point, he was going to get loose, and by what we saw in Game 2, it was sooner rather than later.
