Huawei Can’t Answer Key Questions About the Mate X Foldable Phone

Huawei is still trying to get buyers to accept it into the big boys club and the Mate X is certainly helping its case.

Huawei's foldable Mate X is without a doubt the best gadget announced at Mobile World Congress 2019 and it's easy to understand why.

Samsung Electronics Co. and Huawei Technologies Co. watched as Apple Inc. first priced a mass market smartphone at more than $1,000 - and now have upped the ante with new models at nearly double that cost.

The main benefit of putting the cameras in a side bezel is that there's no notch to be found anywhere on the Mate X's display.

On the spec sheet side, the Mate X is powered by Huawei's own Kirin 980 SoC, 8GB of RAM and comes with 512GB of internal storage.

Samsung has detailed some of its plans for the launch of the Galaxy Fold later this year and further emphasized that the Fold is a high-end luxury device.

In contrast, Chinese rival Huawei gave its MWC presentation the following day and leant heavily into foldable handsets with the debut of the Mate X.

For a phone that will cost around $2,600, that's quite the statement. "Samsung and Huawei will account for the majority of foldable smartphones shipped in 2019, but high shipment numbers are not the priority". Compared to Mate X, other smartphones come with just a single cell unit. Things have changed since then, and the Galaxy S10 5G is on display at MWC, complete with 5G coverage. Of course, it's actually more than that because of the gap at the hinged end and a second slide claimed a total thickness of 17mm for the Galaxy Fold.

Ideally, it is hard hot to think of the screen on the back incurring scratches here and there and with the foldable nature your Corning Gorilla Glass and other screen protection can't work here.

Featuring an OLED screen which is undeniably the best at the moment, the Huawei Mate X possess three display configuration.

Brian Shen asked in his post “how much do you really want such a device”, and we are asking you the same - would you buy this phone if it reaches the pipeline? It unfolds to create a larger 8-inch screen. One advantage that the Mate X does have however, is the inclusion of 5G despite Huawei's struggles with its network around the world. "It is worth the money", Yu said, according to a NetEase report on Monday.

Are Foldable Phones the Future?

In just a few months, the first folding phones will be available for sale, and if you have a couple thousand dollars burning a hole in your pocket, you can buy one for your very own.
