The sources say President Erdogan has a copy of the Skype audio but is refusing to hand it over to the US. They do not know how he died and where his body was taken.

Critics of the crown prince suspect he ordered the killing or, at least, had knowledge of it - a claim denied by Saudi officials.

Up to 18 Saudi officials have been arrested in connection with the killing, which was also the subject of a cover up when a doppelgänger wearing a fake beard was seen on CCTV coming out of the consulate after the victim walked in.
