President Koh Dong-jin introduce the Galaxy A9 smartphone with four rear cameras system in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Lightwave, another user, expressed doubt about A9's competitiveness in the global market: "There is a cutthroat competition between phone makers".
The price is a step up from the Galaxy A8, which was around £100 cheaper, but the new features could make this easily justifiable.
There is no denying that the Galaxy A9 is a tall phone thanks to a 6.3-inch FHD+ (1080x2160) Super AMOLED display.
The design is pretty nice as well and incorporates 3D Glass that is curved around the back. The Galaxy A9 will come in Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink gradient color options, as well as a more classic Caviar Black.
Talking about the new Galaxy A9, Samsung has once again showcased that camera innovation doesn't need to stop just at a dual-lens setup in the affordable segment. There's also a 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom. The phone still retains a microSD card slot that allows users to expand up to a 512GB card.
A Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 sits inside the Samsung Galaxy A9 2018's assembly, alongside 6GB RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and a 3,800mAh battery.
What you gain however, is a couple of extra rear cameras, a higher resolution front camera, a larger battery capacity, extra RAM compared to the S9, double the internal storage compared to the S9, extra microSD expansion and at least £90 in your pocket. The cameras aren't groundbreaking, but there are four of them, so the A9 will undoubtedly be an effective photographer's tool when it comes out in November.
Samsung has made the A9 a comfortable and fashionable smartphone to carry around.
"We're excited to deliver on this promise and debut world-leading smartphone camera technology with the Galaxy A9".
The 120° ultra-wide angle camera sports an 8MP sensor. With four lenses, experience even more ways to unleash your creativity and capture, create and share stunning images.
The 4th camera is the depth camera and features a 5 MP lens with an aperture of f2.2 with live focus. And, like Samsung's venerable flagship, this sensor merely brings 2X optical zoom to the party. It would be wise to keep the subject right in the center as the edges will see some distortion.
There's a 24MP selfie camera (f/2.0) above that screen. Also, the Galaxy A9 will run Android 8.0 Oreo. As a calculated guess-timate, the Galaxy A9 could cost somewhere between S$949-S$999 locally and that is fairly expensive for a mid-range, albeit a high-tech, phone.
The standard version of the smartphone is available at a price of $1249.99. The A7 has a release date of 11 October and will cost £309 in the United Kingdom for the 64GB model. The pricing is yet to be announced by the company, but we don't expect it to be under $500.
Below that is the main camera.
Lastly, the 24MP Main Lens, the same one used in the A7, is the one that will help you achieve attractive pictures no matter the lighting situation. Basically, it's a workaround for having a fixed aperture and lets you adjust the blurriness (bokeh) of the background. Next, we have a 10MP (f/2.4) sensor which is a telephoto lens. It also has a 24-Megapixel shooter on the front for selfies.
