After Venom, Morbius is Next in Line for Sony Spider-Verse

For example: Venom has a radical goal shift that audiences are merely alerted to with one line of dialogue and zero narrative support; Drake spends the film reading from The Ultimate Villain's Guide on Being One-Dimensional and Obvious; and Michelle Williams could be cut from the entire movie and no one notice.

Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters looks to kick off strong with Venom poised to have a solid weekend at the box office. Though Venom is considered as one of the biggest enemy of the wall crawler "Spider-Man" in the comics, we will not see Tom Holland's Spider-Man in the movie. It's not scary, the CGI is messy, the characters are flat, and the laughs are few and far between. In fact, it's a classic origins story, complete with a megalomaniacal billionaire playing God; a likable girlfriend character, and of course an everyman who finds himself in the wrong lab at the wrong time, and all of a sudden he's FREAKING OUT because some insane things are happening to him! Numerous fight scenes push the boundaries of not only CGI but the sensibilities of the movie going audience.

Director Ruben Fleischer described this malarkey as a "grittier, grounded" version of Eddie Brock.

From an earwig in Hardy's ear, they would play the Venom dialogue voice back to him during the scene.

The film's main appeal, however, lies not in the stunts, but in the details of Eddie's metamorphosis as he and Venom gradually settle on the ground rules of life together.

Venom does none of this.

The human side of Hardy's character is a journalist who has become obsessed with taking down the notorious founder of the Life Foundation, Carlton Drake (Riz Ahmed), ruining both his career and his relationship with his girlfriend, Anne Weying (Michelle Williams). In comics Carnage is more powerful than Venom Himself. But, as Travers wrote in his Rolling Stone review, they needn't have bothered with the fake reviews: "No one has to fake a bad review of this". So for all that Venom loves to call Eddie a pussy and hijack his puny human body, he sees Eddie as a kindred spirit. For the uninitiated, Kletus Kasady is played by Woody Harrelson. We also get another doppelganger villain, which fans have been over for some time.

If I've said it once, I'll say it again. For obvious reasons the film goes to great lengths to promote and showcase Brock as the good guy; a crusading journalist who cares about everyone, from the security man in the building where he used to work to a homeless woman in his neighborhood.

And Bryan Bishop of the Verge said that Venom is "a train wreck of a movie, mixing and matching wildly dissonant tones, weird plot contrivances, and a truly unique lead performance". More recently, the Venom symbiote has been moving between hosts, including Mac Gargan (aka The Scorpion) and Peter Parker's old high school rival, Flash Thompson. With many concerned that filmmakers may have ditched some of Venom's most promising content, the British star has now readdressed his previous claims in an interview with IGN.

Spider-Man: Homecoming established the existence of aliens because it referenced the Battle of NY from Avengers: Assemble, which saw thousands of Chitauri warriors pouring through a wormhole and attacking the Big Apple.
