When Does Amazon Prime Day 2018 End?

At Amazon-owned Whole Foods, organic strawberries were best-sellers. Many shoppers were disappointed when they couldn't add products to their carts or their attempts to search for goods prompted an error page featuring dog photos.

It says customers bought more pencils, pens, notebooks, glue sticks, lunch boxes and backpacks on Prime Day last year than any other day of the year.

Some of the biggest sellers on Target.com were Dyson vacuums, Instant Pots, air fryers, Harry's razors, beauty boxes, auto seats, and Google Chromecast.

As with all sale events in India, there was a competing sale to Prime Day. Amazon did not offer an explanation for what caused the Monday issues. With predictions the company would rack up record sales over the 36-hour run, retail rivals were scrambling to offer competing deals.

Amazon is hoping customers don't see any more dogs, after early problems on Prime Day meant people trying to shop got only images of cute canines delivering an apologetic message. "It's much bigger than that".

"I am shocked this caught them off guard", analyst Sucharita Mulpuru-Kodali at Forrester Research wrote in an email. Trial memberships can be cancelled within the 30-day period to avoid being charged for a Prime subscription.

She also said some of the products Amazon's site was pushing were a little odd, like urinal splash guards in the health section.

Amazon Echo Dot is the cheapest of the Echo series and it is available at Rs 2,999 instead of Rs 4,099.

Episerver director of product strategy, personalisation, campaign and analytics, Jeff Cheal, said Amazon has set the standard customers have come to expect from a seamless and convenient shopping experience.

"Shoppers are looking for something more familiar", he added.

However, the company touted yesterday that small businesses accounted for more than $1 billion in sales about mid-way through Prime Day. The company panicked when Prime Day began and shoppers experienced glitches because it had beefed up inventory in anticipation of the promotion.

Amazon's site crashed on Wednesday across the United States and some parts of the UK, leaving shoppers unable to make their purchases.

But Amazon wasn't the only retailer bringing in a record sales haul yesterday.

The next-largest online retailer, eBay (EBAY), has just 6.6 percent of online sales. Online furniture seller Wayfair introduced Way Day in April, becoming its biggest revenue day ever. Target's one-day sale made Tuesday its most successful sales day of the year.

Given the slow initial uptake of Amazon in Australia, the e-commerce giant has a strong incentive to boost Prime membership and, subsequently, sales Down Under.

Earlier this year, the company said it surpassed 100 million Prime members, but Amazon hasn't disclosed official numbers since.
