Trump declines to back US intelligence on Russian meddling

Mr. Trump stunned onlookers by repeatedly defending Putin during the press conference from allegations that Russian Federation interfered in the 2016 election and casting doubt on conclusions to that effect made by USA intelligence agencies.

Trump doesn't want aides, who may take a harder line on Russian Federation, undercutting or interrupting him in his conversation with Putin.

But last Friday, Coats spoke up.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of US foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!" The system is blinking.

"Today's negotiations reflected our joint wish - our joint wish with President Trump to readdress this negative situation in the bilateral relationship", he said.

Putin was asked during the press conference if he had compromising information on Trump and said that he had heard a "rumor" of Russian Federation "allegedly collecting compromising material" on Trump during a trip to Moscow before he ran for president.

"As far as I know there's nothing showing that Putin knew about it", he added.

US Pres. Trump: Spent a great deal of time talking about alleged Russian interference in 2016 election

Jerry Moran: "Putin must know that meddling in our elections is not acceptable and that sanctions against Russian Federation will only be lifted if their behavior changes". What do you do in the face of Trump's craven capitulation to an adversary?

Critics were quick to slam Trump's performance at the summit and news conference, with Obama-era CIA Director John Brennan calling Trump's performance "treasonous".

He said that while Trump may believe this benefits him, that is not the case and his advisors should either tell him that or reveal the reason why they won't. "I don't think we need to call Putin a liar". "It could not have been a lot worse". "I treat President Trump with utmost respect, but back then when he was a private individual, a businessman, nobody informed me that he was in Moscow".

The Republican chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee was also sharply critical.

Trump has maintained he still wants better relations with Russian Federation and Putin: he praised Putin as a "good competitor" during their summit on Monday.

As you may be aware, Trump and Putin held their summit in Helsinki today.

Trump thanked the Russian leader and tried to throw the red and white ball to his wife.
