Sanford upset in GOP primary

Arrington blasted Sanford as a "Never Trumper", and Trump tweeted a startlingly personal attack hours before polls closed, calling Sanford "MIA and nothing but trouble ... he's better off in Argentina".
Arrington is running against incumbent Rep. Mark Sanford, who has never lost a race in his political career. "He is better off in Argentina", the president wrote.
The President announced his last-minute endorsement of Arrington as the polls neared closing on Tuesday, and also criticized Sanford, who has served the state's First Congressional District in the House of Representatives since 2013. That scandal loomed large in the race, with both Trump and Arrington mocking the excuse Sanford had initially used in covering up his affair: that he'd been "hiking the Appalachian Trail".
Sanford is a second US House member from the South attacked by a challenger for criticizing Trump.
Democratic State Sen. Jennifer Wexton was the clear victor in a six-way primary in a northern Virginia district considered key to the House battleground map this fall, and will challenge Republican Rep. Barbara Comstock. "Also, will fight hard to lower your taxes and is tough on crime!"
Sanford, a member of the hard right House Freedom Caucus, has always been one of the few congressional Republicans willing to openly break with Trump.
So far, CNN has been unable to project a victor in the Maine House District or either the Democrat or Republican primary for Maine governor. Together, they raise to 21 the number of states having held their 2018 primary elections so far.
The district, which includes Charleston and the southern coast, has not elected a Democrat since 1978.
Do you believe that voters should have the option to choose to affiliate with a political party when they register to vote or change their voter registration in SC? The Congressman's prediction came true, with him conceding to Arrington. "It's not who we are", he added.
By Tuesday night, Meadows was lamenting Sanford's fate. The chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, who was sacked from the Trump campaign, was the frontrunner, but his win over state Delegate Nick Freitas still upset more moderate Republicans.
National and state Republicans are hopeful that Freitas will win, but don't see any of the candidates as likely to pose a real threat to Kaine. None of the three Senate candidates appears to match that region. In West Virginia, for instance, Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has emerged as the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate-beating back establishment-backed Rep. Evan Jenkins (R-WV), a former Democrat. Dean Heller.in November, Heller is expected to face Democratic Rep. Jacy Rosen, who is expected to easily win a six-person primary, in the fall. Three have primary elections Tuesday night.
McMaster, an early supporter of the president's 2016 campaign, had Trump's full endorsement, marked by a weekend tweet. They could meet again in a runoff if neither tops 50 percent. The victor will face longtime state Rep. James Smith in November.
He's seeking a full term in the office that eluded him in 2010, when McMaster lost a four-way primary to Haley.
Arrington also, in a previous Breitbart News radio interview, pledged to join the House Freedom Caucus - a group that now has no women in it but will when she arrives in Congress next year.
