His death - the second high profile suicide of a USA celebrity this week - prompting an outpouring of support across social media, with people sharing their own stories of struggling with depression and anxiety.

Federal funding for three key suicide-prevention programs has stayed stagnant for years - even as suicide rates have risen in almost every state across the country since the turn of the century, Sen.

"There are a lot of things to do and the first one is to not ignore the signs of someone, a child who is talking about suicide", Dr. Spruiell says.
