Apple senior vice president of Software Engineering Craig Federighi speaks with Apple CEO Tim Cook using the new group Facetime feature at the Apple Worldwide Developer conference (WWDC) in San Jose, California, U.S., June 4, 2018.
If you can't be at the show, you're in luck, as Apple is livestreaming this year's WWDC keynote around the world. Privacy and Security As with all Apple software updates, enhanced privacy and security remain a top priority in iOS 12.
This includes improved processor performance, which now peaks quicker when it is needed, and then ramps down quickly to save battery life.
Apple has focused big time on performance and that's the first major improvement. The format will also get support in Adobe's Creative Cloud suite of apps for professional photographers, videographers and designers. The reports suggests that at some point Apple is planning on overhauling the traditional app grid, CarPlay interface, Mail app, and photography and camera software.
The Photos app gets an extra For You tab. Apparently, you can now search by nearly anything - even broad terms like museum, office, bar.
In iOS 12, Apple will allow apps to expose shortcuts to Siri. It launched the iAd platform in 2010, where app developers could insert Apple's technology into their apps and users would be shown programmatically placed ads in the app.
An example is saying "where are my keys" to have an app open which locates your auto keys. As part of "ARKit2", Apple has been planning a new mode that would allow users to play AR games against each other in the same virtual environment. Safari now also presents simplified system information when users browse the web, preventing them from being tracked based on their system configuration. Siri will also start anticipating your needs, so if, for example, you're running late, it'll ask you if you need to send an apology text.
Voice memos is coming on iPad, too. Multiple reports have suggested Apple is testing a new redesigned iBooks app that will focus on curation.
Apple has officially confirmed a new update to the iPhone and iPad operating system: iOS 12. You can now also set an ending time for your Do Not Disturb command in the Control Centre.
Grouped Notifications were also announced, with notifications grouped by topic or type on a user's lock screen. Those who prefer to communicate with their own face instead of cartoon versions of it might appreciate the introduction of group calls to FaceTime. Group FaceTime will also be integrated directly into the Messages app. The two investors control around $2 billion of Apple stock.
