Serena Williams says she is "an honorary Armenian"

Williams returned to Grand Slam tennis this month for the first time since her victory past year at the Australian Open, a tournament she won while eight weeks pregnant.

Williams is now training for Roland-Garros and Wimbledon, but has set her sights firmly on surpassing Margaret Court's all-time record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles, won between 1960 and 1973.

He quickly levelled at 3-3 on Tuesday, saved four break points in the eighth game before saving four set points in the breaker. I always wanted to be a super hero, and it's kind of my way of being a super hero.

Officially ranked 451, and chasing a record-equalling 24th singles major, Williams was predictably below her best against world No 70 Pliskova.

Serena Williams is not trying to be anyone but herself ― and it's pretty damn awesome. Williams broke in the seventh and held in the eighth to set a 5-3 lead, which she converted on serve to win the second set 6-4.

Serena recently admitted that she nearly died delivering Olympia as she had to undergo an emergency caesarean section but experienced life-threatening complications, which resulted in surgery to prevent blood clots travelling to her lungs.

"Outside of the Mandarin tutor and the French tutor, which I'm really serious about, and of course ballet, I have no dreams for her..."

But when Williams said she was ready to play in the French Open, it seemed she thought she'd be in shape to challenge for the title. So, on top of just looking downright badass, it turns out the catsuit helped optimize her performance given her medical condition.

Williams again played in her striking all-black catsuit which has raised some questions over its legality. "While I had a pretty easy pregnancy, my daughter was born by emergency c-section after her heart rate dropped dramatically during contractions".

The 23-time Grand Slam champion will run into 11th seed Julia Goerges next and it will be interesting to see what kind of plan the German will bring into action. Krystina Pliskova is a tough opponent who hits the ball hard, and it showed a good test for Serena's strength.

"I feel like a warrior wearing it, a queen from Wakanda [a reference to the Black Panther movie] maybe", she said.

"I feel like everything else will fall into place".
