United Nations rights chief: Israel's Gaza response 'wholly disproportionate

Since March 30, Palestinians have been holding the Great March of Return near the Gaza Strip border to mark the 70th anniversary of Nakba, the Palestinian exodus after Israel's declaration of independence in 1948.

More than 2700 Palestinians were wounded in the crackdown, and Gaza's health ministry says eight children under the age of 16 were killed.

Israel's envoy to Canada, Nimrod Barkan, said the IDF fact-finding investigation is independent and impartial.

The summit, to be held in Istanbul, follows the latest developments of the Palestinian issue due to relocating the USA embassy to Jerusalem and the Israeli violence against Palestinians in Gaza. Friday is seen as a key test of whether the current round of unrest will continue.

"These individuals that were killed, regardless of their affiliation or membership, were engaged in a demonstration in which they did not pose an immediate threat to life and were gunned down, and that's what's relevant", Shakir said.

Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman and the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), Israel's liaison agency with the Palestinians, chose to ease movement restrictions set during the heightened tensions of recent days, allowing easier passage into Israel of West Bank Palestinians with permits.

B'nai Brith Canada CEO Michael Mostyn said Israel has every right to use live fire to defend its borders "in light of the fact that Israeli troops twice came under gunfire themselves from Hamas operatives".

Special rallies and gatherings are being organized to express solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine and to condemn Israel's state terrorism in Gaza.

YWN reported Monday that Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and other top Hamas leaders traveled to Egypt where they received stern warnings not to instigate the protests. "We stress to the Zionist enemy and its leaders that the resistance movements whose people are participating in this peaceful movement with all awareness and concern for our people can respond with all force", it said.

"We call for a credible global investigation into the crimes committed by the occupation", Abul Gheit said at the opening session of an extraordinary meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo to discuss the violence.

Protests began after the USA embassy was officially opened in Jerusalem on Monday (local time).

The foreign ministers renewed their rejection and condemnation of Washington's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, decrying it as a blatant violation of worldwide law and related United Nations resolutions and a threat to global peace and security.

The Kuwaiti draft resolution calls for measures to be taken to guarantee the safety and protection of the Palestinian civilian population, including through the deployment of "an worldwide protection mission".

"War incites war, violence incites violence". Only 3 were Islamic Jihad.

The two sides reiterated the need to coordinate efforts on this crisis in order to stop the Israeli attacks and protect the Palestinian people.
