KKR pulled MI back claiming two back-to-back wickets, that of Sharma and Pandya. The entire team got bowled out for 108 runs in just 18.1 overs. But as has been MI's story throughout this IPL their batting fell apart in the final 7 overs.
In the bowling department, Sunil Narine was the most economical bowler, with a rate of 6.75 and 27 runs conceded. Now we are just backing and helping out each other.
"Coach also said in the time-out that just be yourself, back yourself and that we needed some good hits today".
Kishan blasted six maximums in his quick-fire innings, producing the kind of contribution Kolkata could only dream of as they were dismissed with 12 balls remaining.
Though Rohit (36 off 31) was looking tame throughout the innings, Ishan was on the top gear to smash four sixes in the 14th over to reach his 50 in just 17 deliveries. The target was so massive that they had no option but to hit the ball, which resulted in continuous fall of wickets.
Rohit Sharma (c), Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Mustafizur Rahman, Suryakumar Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Rahul Chahar, Evin Lewis, Saurabh Tiwary, Ben Cutting, Pradeep Sangwan, Jean-Paul Duminy, Tajinder Singh, Sharad Lumba, Siddhesh Lad, Aditya Tare, Mayank Markande, Akila Dananjaya, Anukul Roy, Mohsin Khan, MD Nidheesh, Mitchell McClenaghan, Adam Milne.
Interestingly, Kishan also played the "helicopter" shot during his knock, made famous by his senior from Jharkhand. He keeps telling me to take my time and read the situation while at the crease. Opening the innings for Mumbai Suryakumar and Lewis built a slow but steady partnership, laying the groundwork for the innings.
Dinesh Kartik was run out in the 1st ball of the 10th over by Hardik, and Rana was caught by Cutting on the 2nd ball. And when he goes for runs, it's hard. He gets picked in all three formats and he is a confident young guy.
"I am very disappointed with this loss". But there are three games and we will take one game at a time. While Karthik's appointment did raise a few eyebrows, the wicket-keeper batsman silenced critics by putting in inspirational performances for the team both with the bat and as a leader. "I believe in that and want my teammates to believe in that", Karthik was quoted as saying in Sportstar. It was a good batting wicket. Huge runs, huge wickets and huge difference.
The Indians have problems with death overs while KKR struggles with powerplays.
