Microsoft has announced a unique partnership with China-based DJI - the world's biggest drone company - where DJI will create a new software development kit (SDK) for Windows 10 PCs. For example, if you're working on a Word document on your desktop the same will be updated on Timeline. But Belfiore could have been talking about any hardware platform. We need to up-level even our concept of what an operating system is.
Why this matters: After the demise of Windows phones, the reorganization that seemingly downplayed Windows was chewed over by analysts and fans alike.
Over 5,000 developers are expected to attend the conference.
There's other tools coming too, like Timeline.
Additionally, Microsoft Edge browsing sessions from an iPhone or iPad are now included in the Timeline experience on a Windows 10 PC.
Microsoft tells me that the figure is still "nearly 700 million", which is the number Terry Myerson had provided a few weeks back.
The new Your Phone app sounds like one of the first manifestations of that vision. The app is callable of providing access to SMS, photos, and notifications as instantly as they appear on your smartphone. Similarly, the company demonstrated how you'll be able to open Alexa through Cortana on your PC, so you'll be able to lower your thermostat from your computer.
For now, it's only launching for Windows Insider program users.
Microsoft shares were up more than 1 percent before the close Monday.
Microsoft's Bot Builder SDK has been updated.
Microsoft Build runs until Wednesday.
At the same time, the Microsoft Launcher app on Android is created to support enterprise customers by providing an easy point of access to line of business applications via Microsoft Intune. It had 120 million active commercial users in October previous year and the company announced today that the figure now stands at 135 million.
It would be rather weird if Microsoft didn't mention Windows at Build, but members of the Insider program can already see what Microsoft is working on. Microsoft will no longer be adding any new features into Windows Mobile and will end all support and security patches ...
The feature lets you pick up where you left off across multiple devices.
The next major update for Windows 10 will introduce a new interface called Sets.
Microsoft's aim with this app is to defer users from taking out their smartphones from their pockets and in doing so, letting itself co-exist amongst Android and iOS.
These features are only available as part of a small beta, but should reach the wider market in the future.
Developers are the obvious focal point of Microsoft's annual Build conference.
Microsoft (Nasdaq "MSFT" @microsoft) enables digital transformation for the era of an intelligent cloud and an intelligent edge.
And if that's not enough, there's cold cash. When a company like Microsoft decides to play nice with others, it always turns out to be a good thing for us.
