T20 2018: Kolkata's Dinesh Karthik, Shubman Gill boss over Chennai

Chennai ended up paying for the errors as Kolkata secured a rather easy victory, just as it was the case with the former 5 years back in the Mumbai encounter where Pollard became the victim. Presently Kolkata is in the fourth place in the Points table but, its form is going well at this time. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were thrashed by the hosts and the captain and the coach lamented the poor fielding as the reason for their loss.

One of the aspects that made KKR an intriguing side to follow before the season started, was their strategy to go big on three young players who created a reputation for themselves during India's title-winning, unbeaten run at the Under-19 World Cup. He has scored 286 runs at an average of 71.50.

When CSK came out to defend their total of 177, Jadeja - who possesses one of the safest pairs of hands in the business - dropped two back to back catches off consecutive deliveries in the third over. Off-colour Faf du Plessis was sent to open the innings with Shane Watson instead of Ambati Rayudu who should have been the obvious choice. Suresh Raina, the most successful batsman in IPL history though, has not been consistent in his performance. It was also sweet revenge for KKR who had fallen short in Chennai earlier in the tournament. But captain Dhoni too, struggled against spin. Despite the match being played in Eden Gardens, the chants of Dhoni-Dhoni were evident from the stands.

Kolkata beat Bengaluru in their last match.

Midway into their chase, the battle was evenly poised with Kolkata Knight Riders on 90 for 3, the same as Chennai Super Kings after 10 overs. Team's batting is strong.

After being put into bat, Chennai got off to a good start but failed to capitalise on a solid foundation set by the top order. Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine began the innings like they usually do - hitting the ball all across the park. Dinesh Karthik also hugged the fan and posed for the picture with him. The trio of Piyush Chawla, Kuldeep Yadav and Sunil Narine would be licking their lips by that prospect. These three are very unsafe on their home ground.

Although Chennai's qualification is not under any immediate threat, they will want to address their some issues.
