Iran says can produce higher enriched uranium if USA exits nuclear deal

Under the deal, which led to the lifting of most worldwide sanctions in 2016, Iran's level of enrichment must remain around 3.6 percent.

Iran says it does not seek nuclear arms, and blames Washington and its allies for stirring Middle East tension.

Pulling out from the deal would help America and Israel act militarily against Iran, Haaretz added.

The two met at the defence ministry in Tel Aviv amidst the newly-appointed secretary of state's three-day visit to the region. President Trump has criticized the Iran deal via Twitter countless times over the years, BBC noted. Both had been down more than a dollar after a report out Friday showed United States drillers added five oil rigs last week, raising the tally to 825, the highest level since March 2015.

"I also appreciate the President's position and your position that it is necessary to stop the aggression of Iran in the region".

Saudi Arabia accuses Iran of supplying Yemen's Houthi rebels with weapons. "It supports the murderous Assad regime (in Syria) as well", Pompeo said.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to withdraw from the 2015 agreement reached between Iran and global powers, which granted Tehran relief from economic sanctions in return for curbs to its nuclear program.

US Secretary of State Pompeo is in the Middle East to gain support from Saudi Arabia for new sanctions on Tehran.

Saudi Arabia, the chief regional rival to Iran, is considered key in the effort to counter Tehran's ambitions.

But there is also optimism, palpable among the officials around him on the trip, that US diplomacy at last has a chief who can speak for the President and will focus on the department's core missions.

In Brussels on Friday, he said after meeting embassy staffers that "they may have been demoralized, but they seemed in good spirits". But he also emphasized the need to find political solutions to the region's conflicts.

Pompeo also addressed the rift between Qatar and its neighbours, telling reporters after leaving Riyadh: "We are hopeful that they will, in their own way, figure out how to remove the dispute between them".

Poor targeting by the Saudis in airstrikes, as well as the kingdom's blockade of Yemeni ports, have done much to worsen the humanitarian situation in Yemen, and Pompeo told Jubeir on Saturday that Yemen must have easy access to humanitarian and commercial goods, along with fuel, the state department official said.

Britain, France, Germany, Russia, China and the European Union say Washington can not unilaterally cancel an accord enshrined by a United Nations resolution.

Pompeo promised the US will stand with Israel against Iran, the Los Angeles Times reported. It supports proxy militias and terrorist groups. Qatar denies the charges. "We've got a common challenge in Iran I think they all recognize that".

Pompeo's message on Iran was clear.

"The previous secretary had no part in those relationships and was essentially sidelined by various White House senior aides", said Daniel B. Shapiro, a former US ambassador to Israel under President Barack Obama.

Pompeo had no plans to meet with any Palestinians, who have stopped talking to United States officials since the Jerusalem decision.

Pompeo also reiterated the USA commitment to relocating its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem on May 14.
