Amazon Cloud Revenue Leaps 49% to $5.44B

Microsoft reported that revenues in its More Personal Computing business, which includes Windows, were up 13 percent YOY, and that Windows commercial-the part of the business tied to enterprise subscriptions-saw "strong double-digit billings growth" in the quarter.
Intelligent Cloud made $7.9 billion in revenue, also a 17% (15% CC) growth from past year. The earnings report points that LinkedIn revenue increased 37 percent with continued acceleration in engagement highlighted by LinkedIn's growth of over 30 percent.
Diluted earnings per share was $0.95 and increased 36%.
Microsoft saw its stock fall as much as 2.5 percent last night despite a positive result. Microsoft said Surface revenue grew 32 percent, the only caveat being that the prior year was impacted by "product end-of-life-cycle dynamics".
AWS' operating income was $1.4 billion for the quarter, a 57% year-over-year increase.
Microsoft Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood said the company will continue to increase spending as long as customer demand for cloud services rises.
"But that said, we see plenty of opportunity for total gross margin growth in terms of dollars just because of the number of markets that we participate in which we, by the way, never participated in in the old server world".

Nadella's cloud-centric campaign has included a major re-org of Microsoft's business units to focus on cloud services. Windows alone is not enough to sustain the company's business model. Office 365 for business now has 135 million monthly active users, says Microsoft.
Synergy Research Group said it estimates that quarterly cloud infrastructure service revenues, including IaaS, PaaS and hosted private cloud services, have now reached nearly $15 billion. "Productivity and Business" sells the Office productivity suite and other software programs while "More Intelligent Computing" includes Windows PC license revenue and the Xbox gaming franchise. On the Office 365 commercial side, revenue grew 42 percent.
