5 things to know about the Golden State Killer's trial

She found out Tuesday night that Sacramento police arrested 72-year-old, former cop James Joseph DeAngelo. Although there is no statute of limitations on murder, the deadline to file criminal charges in rape cases would have expired years ago.

Following the arrest, McNamara's friend Sarah Stanard shared her frustrated reaction with the Washington Post. Here is part of that conversation.

Now, the man is known as the Golden State Killer.

We had just done a book event in Chicago in Michelle's hometown.

Scientists then compare the DNA to those they already have on record in hopes of connecting them with unknown branches of their family tree.

Yesterday, there would be elation.

He was a regular guy. He lived in the same home for 30 years. "So with his education and his experience in law enforcement, he kind of knew what the next step was going to be with the police department".

The bigger theory was that he tried to be a police officer and failed, which actually kind of came true too. He was also thought to have some sort of military or law enforcement firearms training.

Grounds for making the arrest reside in scientific advancements - DNA - that have had the effect of making even the coldest case warm if that potential magic bullet is recovered at the crime scene. Why was it so important to her?

In fact, the book brought a considerable amount of attention to the case, thanks to its popularity.

"My inside voice told me, 'You are going to be raped, this is what's going to happen to you, and you're gonna survive, ' and it was just that simple", she told KOVR.

Now, the irreverent series has put out an update with more details about the Golden State Killer case and DeAngelo's arrest.

"I think that is what led her down this road of using Xanax".

"I knew that, if we ever caught the person, it would be done because we had the DNA and the DNA was consistent across the crimes", Carole said.

"She cared about the #GoldenStateKiller being behind bars and the victims getting some relief", he tweeted. She never learned for certain if the man she saw was the notorious serial killer and rapist who was tied to multiple crimes in Danville.

The long-time wanted killer is allegedly responsible for 12 homicides, nearly 50 rapes and 120 home burglaries.

"Sobbing, I mean sobbing, and laughing", Carson described her initial reaction on Megyn Kelly's NBC Today Show Thursday morning, "I'd like to punch him in the face to tell you the truth".
