Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima stepping down, Shuntaro Furukawa taking his place

The Wii sold 13.7 million while the PS4 sold 13.5 million.

Just yesterday, Nintendo provided updated shipment numbers for both Switch and 3DS, alongside further information on its fiscal year results. Kimishima stressed that it's important to deliver new games of Nintendo's key franchises, including Super Smash Bros.

The company had announced on December 12 that it had sold more than 10 million Switch consoles worldwide.

"A game console is only as good as the games that can be played on it, and Nintendo's studios have done a great jump pumping out the hits since launch", said Lewis Ward, research director for gaming and AR/VR at IDC. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has also sold over 1.3 million units, an impressive feat for a niche JRPG.

With a new CEO at the helm, Nintendo intends to go from strength to strength. The face behind some of Nintendo's most beloved franchises, his were some mighty big shoes to fill.

As Engadget reports, we can expect to see the new president Shuntaro Furukawa, who will be replacing Tatsumi Kimishima who has been in charge since 2015.

Furukawa, 46, joined Nintendo in 1994, worked in global marketing and served on the board of partly owned Pokemon Co.

With series such as Fire Emblem, Metroid and Pokémon making their way to the console, it's unlikely that the company will be focusing on the Switch's successor any time soon. Since then, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 9.22 million copies, putting it almost one million ahead of the original. Each of these scored incredibly highly with critics.

The rumors are as follows: "After debating we have made a decision to release a portion of the Fortnite x Switch information we have - the statements we consider to be the most reliable".

Meanwhile, the Save the World game mode will offer local cooperative gameplay between Switch consoles.

As well, software totaled 10 million above expectations. "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" shipped 9.22 million, and "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" has sold 8.48 million.

Even the retro SNES Classic console sold in number, too, with sales of 5.28 million.
