Eagles trade out of the first round, swapping picks with Baltimore

A first round full of surprises had one final twist as the Baltimore Ravens traded up to the 32nd pick to select Lamar Jackson.

Prior to the trade, the Eagles had no picks in the second or third rounds.

Jackson has the potential to elevate the offense to a level that, providing the defense continues to excel, would make the Ravens contenders to go deep into the postseason. We have a great quarterback in Joe Flacco.

"Absolutely", Jackson said. "There is a chip on my shoulder".

Jackson gives the Ravens an insurance policy should Flacco suffer an injury but also provides a glimpse of their future after the veteran is no longer the assumed starter.

"One of the things [we've targed], since we were down in Florida back in January [for the annual front office planning meeting] was playmakers; guys that can make critical plays in situations". "It was just an honor for the Ravens organization to believe in me". Last season, Jackson threw for 3,660 yards with 27 touchdowns and had 1,601 yards rushing with 18 more scores.

He is a potential replacement for Benjamin Watson, who led the Ravens with 61 catches in 2017 before leaving as a free agent. "That suits me perfectly". The 24-year-old Hurst spent two years as a minor league player in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. "This place changed my life".

He said during USC's NFL Pro Day it had to do with his experience with the 2012 MLB Draft. He signed three free agent receivers - Michael Crabtree, John Brown and Willie Snead - and added free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III. However, the Ravens can conceivably get out of the pact after this season, although it would require eating $24 million in dead money over the next two seasons. Though, Newsome - who has been with the team since its inaugural season in 1996 - will still be involved with Baltimore in some form.

The ex-Gamecocks' pass-catcher tallied 100 receptions for 1,281 yards and three TDs during his three-year career in Columbia. Golly", he said. "It's been my goal since the beginning of last season.
