The Browns, who limped to a 0-16 mark past year and are 1-31 in the last two seasons, haven't fared well when selecting a quarterback with their first-round pick.
"When they took Elliott high, then went 13-3, people saw it", Esch said.
New York Jets (via Indianapolis Colts) - Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming. That No. 1 pick, all this stuff and I'm No. 2. I will, however, put an asterisk * next to teams I think may trade up or down as the commissioner hugs and welcomes the rookies to the NFL. But don't go buying No. 17 Browns jerseys just yet.
Conventional wisdom says the Saints, picking at the bottom of the first round and working without a second-round pick, might be looking to move back this year, even though Loomis has only moved down three times in 20 draft-day trades in his career, and never in the first round.
Ah, draft week - enjoy the madness.
Darnold elected not to participate in most of the drills at the Combine, instead choosing to work out only at USC Pro Day and in visits to the teams. It would take something similar to get the Giants out of No. 2 this year.
While Saquon Barkley is the undisputed headliner of Penn State's National Football League draft class, this deep group should give Penn State more draft picks than it did in 2010 when the Nittany Lions had six players selected. The Giants haven't done much to improve their back field outside of Jonathan Stewart, and Barkley makes a potentially high-powered offense that much better.
There's the Sam Darnold contingent, which sees the two-year Southern Cal starter as the safest choice, the one who checks all the positive boxes. It made sense then, and it makes sense now.
Jason Cabinda is a projected late-round pick who likely will be fighting for a roster spot this summer. If you don't really think I'm going to do well there, I don't want to go somewhere I'm not going to do well. "And Scot McCloughan, I believe, he believes that Baker Mayfield may just be the best quarterback in this draft class".
Garrett was a smart pick, but the Browns haven't been so savvy in recent years. He can sit behind Keenum if need be, until he is ready.
"Call this hunch the Won't Get Fooled Again Pick".
Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater were both brought in on one-year deals and are solid stopgap options, but NY needs to find their franchise quarterback of the future. Let's make it happen.
The more they think about being the fired, the more they think about their team's quarterback situation. There is all kinds of potential for blockbuster trades within the top five picks alone - the Giants, Browns and Broncos could all be serious trade candidates - and this is the wildest quarterback landscape I can ever recall. Sure, they have other high-value positions they could have addressed here, such as quarterback and offensive line, but it's almost impossible to pass on someone with Chubb's potential.
What does this mean for the Bears?
That's it - nice and quick. There are mock drafters who feel he has climbed all the way into the top 5.
