David Liti receives the David Dixon Award for outstanding sporting spirit. The final day of GC2018 started with the Marathon, ended with the Rugby Sevens and included gold medal moments in Netball, Basketball, Squash, Table Tennis and Badminton.
Fearnley told a local radio show on Monday afternoon that the ceremony omission had been disappointing.
Closing ceremonies of Olympic and Commonwealth Games are usually much more relaxed than formal openings, focusing on the athletes and celebrating their achievements.
Channel Seven's own commentators, Johanna Griggs and Basil Zempilas, launched into an extraordinary attack on the ceremony immediately after it finished, saying they were "furious".
"Back in the day of Sydney 2000, Dick Ebersol of the NBC network was able to overturn the host city agreement and the IOC Charter by insisting that the athletes not be permitted to be in the stadium watching the ceremony prior to the Parade of Athletes".
"I am not interested in blaming anyone else", he said.
Griggs: I'm sorry you're being way too polite.
"I will engage with everyone when there is a real solid circumstances to blow up. Seriously, a lot of people don't want to hear this, but if Stan was a white man I doubt we'd have been faced with the same situation".
She was particularly critical of the decision not to show para-sports veteran Kurt Fearnley carrying the Australian flag into Carrara Stadium, surrounded by his teammates.
Sunrise's David Koch called Mr Beattie out over the excuse of considering the "welfare of athletes", with previous closing ceremonies always featuring the athletes. "Yes, we did stuff it up", Beattie said.
"When you've got thousands of athletes, the problem is, where do you put them?"
"We were looking forward to being part of the Closing Ceremony and being recognized for what we had done in the games".
"The athletes didn't really know what was happening. We should assess our success by participation and the way we conducted ourselves during the Games. It is also time to begin to invest in our athletes if we want to do well in sports", he remarked. We told them before they left that they should do their best and they did. 26 gold, 20 silver and 20 bronze medals were collected by the Indian contingent in all as they showed that they are a force to be reckoned with across a number of disciplines. "We just need to boost the profile of the Paralympics and get that showcased around the world a bit more". So, when the TV broadcast actually commenced, the march was over and the athletes had left the stadium.
"We are naturally disappointed that the good intentions of the creative did not necessarily work for some of the athletes involved and the broadcast audience".
Beattie also conceded speeches went for too long.
