NBA Playoff roundup: Raptors snap Game 1 hex, defeat Wizards

A leaky roof caused a brief delay prior to the start of Game 1 of the first-round playoff series between the No. 8 Washington Wizards and No. 1 Toronto Raptors on Saturday. Washington got back within seven, but couldn't catch back up.

The speedy Wall averaged 19.4 points and 9.6 assists this season. He returned for the final two weeks, but the Wizards still struggled down the stretch. It is a Game 1, so of course Toronto is losing at halftime.

Beal again led the way as the Wizards took a 122-119 win at home over the Raptors on February 1. The Raptors' starting lineup consists of DeMar DeRozan, Kyle Lowry, OG Anunoby, Serge Ibaka, and Jonas Valenciunas.

DeRozan and Lowry combined for 28 points on 10-of-26 shooting, but together they dished out 15 assists while being heavily defended. "They have a lot of good players". This has been an on-going concern for the duo: DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry consistently underperform when the calendar rolls to April and May.

Raptors: Lowry played despite flu-like symptoms.

This is what the Raptors have said in recent seasons about trying to slow down the Cleveland Cavaliers, even as they were getting thumped by them. Toronto has played 13 series in franchise history and won one Game 1, beating Philadelphia in the second round in 2001. The victory was Toronto's fourth straight on the road, as the Raptors were led by their reserves who outscored Washington's bench 50-15. In short, they are better - clearly better - than Washington. This game, in which he shot 6-for-17, illustrated that he has become an expert in doing just that. Frankly, the Wiz have 1-2-3-Cancun written all over them. All the more impressive that they did this without VanVleet, who makes the bench that much more risky for Toronto, and brings another weapon that they can use in clutch minutes.

Washington was handed a blow on Friday as it was announced that Meeks was suspended 25 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He plans to appeal but until that is heard and if he is cleared, he is out of action.

Rookies Lonzo Ball, Kuzma and Josh Hart all showed clear National Basketball Association ability, while youngsters Brandon Ingram and Julius Randle continued their development into above-average pros. Los Angeles' 35-47 record and 11th-place conference finish in the just-completed season are its best performances by a considerable margin during this woeful five-year stretch. That mark was the best in the Eastern Conference by a long shot. Feel free to check out our online sports betting review on Intertops to get a closer look at what they offer.
