Pooja staged a strong fight back after the break.
The mother of three and now politician in India made a successful return to the ring at a major multi-sports event on Saturday.
Nearly every medal that is there to be taken is in her kitty but M C Mary Kom says she still trains like a maniac, the latest result of the regimen being a gold on debut at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
It is Kom's first Commonwealth medal of any colour and burnishes a heaving trophy cabinet that already includes an Olympic bronze from London 2012 and five amateur world championship titles.
This is the first time Mary Kom participated in CWG and the fierce boxer proved her mettle once again.
"Today I'm dedicating my medal to my mum, but I want to represent India at the (Tokyo) 2020 Olympics and to be there when they raise the Indian flag", the 22-year-old said looking ahead. Her 589 (196 in kneeling, 199 in prone and 194 in standing) ensures she finished at the top in qualifying.
He sat in sixth after the prone and kneeling rounds of the final, but produced the highest score of the third round to launch himself into medal contention. "So if my body allows, I will go". Mary had twice put her career on hold in 2008 and 2012 after the birth of her children.

The Commonwealth Games Federation Court heard the latest complaint on Thursday after it was brought to its notice by the CGF Medical Commission. While their victory over the English in the pool match would give them confidence, the loss against New Zealand in the semis was bitter.
New Zealand's Georgia Williams followed the Australian across the line to secure the silver medal, ending on the same time as the victor.
The team Nigeria is no 8 on the medal table with 8 gold, five silver and five bronze. Another silver medal came from Mausam Khatri, who was making his debut at the Games. Johnson, however failed to clinch the podium spot as he completed the race on the fifth spot.
"It was just pure relief, it's so special to have won on home soil", Hosking said.
"I wish all six of the girls could have "Commonwealth Games winner" on their CV".
"This squad really enjoy working together and they have delivered", said two-time world 110m hurdles champion Colin Jackson on BBC TV. New Zealand outscored Canada 28-13 in the fourth quarter and almost overcame a 21-point deficit.
"We have asked the Commonwealth Games Association of India to ensure both athletes depart Australia on the first flight available", she added.
Still, the Commonwealth Games gold medal remains an elusive prize for the Hanover native. "We will appeal against these decisions", General Team Manager, Namdev Shirgaonker said addressing a press conference that was also attended by the Indian chef-de-mission Vikram Sisodia.
