Bayern Munich boss fears Real Madrid's dominance in the Champions League

Eintracht Frankfurt's Niko Kovac will replace Bayern Munich's head coach Jupp Heynckes for the upcoming season, the German champions confirmed in an official press release on Friday.

However. Bayern sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the following day that an agreement has been made.

Club president Uli Hoeness, who played alongside Rummenigge in the Bayern outfit that won the 1976 title, added: "If you want to win the Champions League, you have to beat the best".

"Neither we [Manchester City] nor Barcelona are in the semi-finals, so I will support Bayern, I hope they have the luck they deserve", Guardiola said about the club he managed before arriving in the Premier League.

Kovac will be assisted by his brother Robert, who fulfils a similar role at Eintracht.

The 46-year-old, who had a long playing career in the Bundesliga, was at Bayern between 2001-3. "We are going into many important games".

The Berlin born Croatian previously led the Croatian national team at the 2014 World Cup where they thrashed Cameroon 4-0, but suffered 3-1 defeats to hosts Brazil and then Mexico, meaning they bowed out at the group stage. "You can't buy the Champions League these days". Lewandowski put Bayern ahead from the spot early in the second half, but after Ronaldo equalised, Sergio Ramos put through his own net to restore parity in the tie. The siblings played together at global level, as well as at Bayern. "I was really impressed", he said.

Liverpool will face Roma in the semifinals of the Champions League later this month as they continue their attempt to win it for the first time since 2005. "For example, when I see Robben and Ribery, it gets my heart racing". And he worked with a lot of different personalities and nationalities at Frankfurt.

It's an interesting contrast to a criticism frequently levelled at another candidate for the Bayern Munich job, Thomas Tuchel, whose man-management of some Borussia Dortmund players damaged team morale. "It will work", Heynckes said of his successor, who he said was "predestined to take over at Bayern".

Bayern did not reveal the cost of poaching Kovac, but both Bild and Sport Bild claimed that his departure before the end of his Frankfurt contract in 2019 would cost Bayern 2.2 million euros.
