School board gears up for budget season

A public hearing on the budget is set for April 30.

A former teacher in Pinellas County, Guy has two young children who he plans to enter in public school in the next few years. Those voting against the budget were Fletcher, Ben Twitchell and Jerry Quirion; and those in favor were Steve Russell, Patricia West, Jeff West and Ray Caron.
The estimated tax rate is $51.16 per $1,000 of assessed valuation, an $1.49 increase, or 3 percent, which would result in an increase of $58.11 per year on a $100,000 home after the equalization rate is added.
The average tax increase per parcel would be about $38.20.
"Many people ask me, 'Well, what did it take to get that school from the bottom of the list in the state to number 18 out of 706 schools in the state?' It took our teachers really, truly understanding the students that we were serving", Lewis recalled Tuesday at Lawrence's Arterra Event Gallery.
Neither Voskuhl nor HCPS Manager of Communications Jillian Lader said they knew Monday how many applications had been received.
The new superintendent will preside over a system with about 37,500 students in 54 schools and about 5,000 employees.
School Board President Patty Quessenberry said out of the 25 external and internal applicants, Bauman is the transformational leader the District needs. Fletcher proposed to cut the increase by $253,000 more and have taxpayers pay $300,000.
Huntley said the district is implementing the middle school component of the Project Lead the Way engineering curriculum called Gateways for all students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades. Larson and several other council members questioned aspects of the board's plan at the second meeting, in January. The program is part of Florida's School Safety Act, the measure passed in the wake of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on February 14th. School originally was scheduled to end June 15.
He was at the Tracy School District from 2003-2011.
On Monday, Schwarz Wolf and other Munster School Board members said they were unable to comment on pending litigation.
"I am sure we all can agree that there is nothing that fully replaces being in the room when it comes to group participation and effective communication", Betando said.
"It kind of reflects a bad reflection on something not even close to being true", Hollow-Rock Bruceton Special School System Director David Duncan said.
Smith said the county wants to hire a surveyor to mark up a portion of the former school that now houses the Ambassador Christian Academy.
