HMD Global India event highlights: Nokia 6, 7 Plus, 8 Sirocco announced

Latest Update: Expanding portfolio, driving innovation and deepening the channel presence will be the plan for 2018, says India VP Ajey Mehta.

With that out of the way, it's time to take a look at the devices on offer. The brand has already announced the launch of Nokia 1 Android Oreo (Go Edition) smartphone in India for Rs 5,499.

The Nokia 7 Plus is built around a Snapdragon 660 chipset coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage.

Once a dominant player in the Indian market, Nokia began to see a downfall in market share some time around 2012 due to its slow response to changing trends like dual SIM and touch screen smartphones.

However, the highlight of the Nokia 9 will be the triple camera setup that will reportedly pack 41-megapixel, 20-megapixel, and 9.7-megapixel sensors on the back with Carl Zeiss optics complete with 4x optical zoom, alongside both Xenon and LED flash modules. In fact, the phone is made up of Gorilla Glass 5 and a metal frame. It offers connectivity options of 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (MIMO), Bluetooth 5.0, GPS/ GLONASS, USB Type-C 3.1 and NFC.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the most powerful Nokia-branded, Android-powered smartphone to date. On the front, the it bears a 8-megapixel fixed focus camera with an f/2.0 aperture, and 1.12-micron pixels. Wireless charging is also a part of the package, while the phone sports 12 and 13-megapixel snappers on the back, along with ZEISS Optics, same as the Nokia 7 Plus.

Inspired by the rich design heritage of Nokia phones, the Nokia 8 Sirocco's elegant design and compact style is the ideal blend of precise craftsmanship and purposeful innovation.

The new edition of the Nokia 2010 is pegged to run on the same OS that is available on the new Nokia 8110.

New Nokia 6 will be available at a recommended best buy price of Rs. 16,999 from 6th April in Black/Copper and White/Copper colors. Just like Nokia phones of old, the Nokia 6 continues that tradition. Initially, it was supposed to come past year as rumoured but that didn't happen. There is a "Pro Camera" mode that lets users get full manual control over every picture they shoot.

Answer: The Nokia 8 Sirocco runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

Pricing is what ultimately decides how a phone does in India, and HMD is cognizant of the same.

Nokia 7 Plus will be available for pre-order for Rs 25,999 on Amazon (online exclusive), Nokia stores and select retail chains from April 20.

It will be available in Warm Red and Dark Blue from Nokia's accredited retailers across the country. Airtel customers buying Nokia 8 Sirocco will get additional data benefit of 120GB. It is unclear whether HMD Global would source the optical fingerprint sensor from Synaptics or another company. Until then, we only have the global average prices of the three smarphones - EUR 279 (approximately Rs. 22,000), EUR 399 (about Rs. 32,000), and EUR 749 (roughly Rs. 60,000), respectively.
