Andrew McCabe, a longtime Federal Bureau of Investigations official who most recently served as the agency's deputy director, was sacked last Friday - with a little more than 24 hours before he would have qualified for early retirement.
Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D) said McCabe's firing is something Russian President Vladimir Putin would do, and Mika Brzezinski - an MSNBC host and daughter of Carter adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski - said Trump is engaging in "authoritarian behavior". Here's Tara Palmieri. Reporter: Tonight, president trump escalating his attack.
"I think at some point Republican enablers in the House and Senate are going to say publicly what they've been saying privately", he added.
Mueller is also examining whether Trump might have obstructed justice, including by firing Comey last May.
Asked about this in January, Trump said he did not recall asking McCabe whom he voted for. "Of course, I disagreed with him". "We can't in Congress accept that", Flake told CNN's "State of the Union". "90 days to go?!" The Post reported that one of his senior advisers, Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer Lisa Page, had exchanged numerous pro-Clinton and anti-Trump text messages with Peter Strzok, the top Federal Bureau of Investigation agent on Mueller's probe. His candor in an interview past year with NBC, after firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, is what got him the special counsel that haunts his presidency. "WITCH HUNT!" Trump was referring to a dossier of anti-Trump research funded by the Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton's campaign.
Mueller also has memos written by McCabe documenting his conversations with President Donald Trump, a person familiar with the matter told CNN. Republican US Representative Trey Gowdy criticized Dowd in an interview with "Fox News Sunday". I think very clearly he was sacked for political reasons. "But the tweets confirm that he has corrupted the entire process that led to Mr. McCabe's termination and has rendered it illegitimate", he added.
"The president, the administration, and his legal team must not take any steps to curtail, interfere with or end the special counsel's investigation or there will be severe consequences from both Democrats and Republicans", Sen.
Some in Washington fear he is planning Robert Mueller's dismissal.
"I don't have access to the personnel records that the F.B.I. did to see that", Conaway said on "Meet The Press".
Mr. Comey, who was sacked in May, told Congress he kept detailed notes on each of his interactions with Mr. Trump, including a meeting in which the president allegedly told the lawman to lay off former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, who was ousted for misleading Vice President Mike Pence about phones calls with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. "I don't like the way it happened".
The FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility recommended firing McCabe as punishment for allegedly authorizing the sharing of information with the Wall Street Journal in October 2016 and then misleading internal investigators about his actions.
The firing was followed by reports that McCabe kept personal memos detailing interactions with the president.
