In varying ways, area students Wednesday took part in a national demonstration against gun violence in schools.
But not all schools welcomed the walkout.
"Just to be clear, no student will be disciplined because they expressed any particular viewpoint or opinion", Superintendent Jacqueline A. Rattigan said in a statement to parents and students regarding the school assembly and anyone who chose to walk out.
Last month, a teenager with a semi-automatic assault weapon murdered 17 people in cold blood at a high school in Parkland, Florida. Students feel safe and secure in the presence of a trusted teacher.

Some Vermont high school students will make the trip to participate in the Washington D.C. march, including 12 students and four teachers from Randolph Union High School.

I've had good conversations with gun owners, and we agree: these are military weapons. "Our schools are unsafe". Districts have said consequences are related to "defying authority, not for participating", but students have said their participation in individual walkouts has outweighed any consequences. It is another place our kids of Woodmore show they are students of integrity.
