In an emotional farewell speech, Tillerson warns Russian Federation and snubs Trump

James Comey found out about his firing via cable news. "Pompeo has this great opportunity where he gets to be in the room with Trump, he gets to talk about foreign-policy issues, he's one of the adults at the table who makes big decisions".

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly. "Of course, the question is how her relationship with the White House will be because of those views and because she doesn't have any special relationship with the president".

Outgoing Secretary of State Rex Tillerson spoke with the man nominated to be his successor on Wednesday, just a day after being fired by President Donald Trump, according to several senior State Department officials. Tillerson also came under fire for reports that he had called Trump a moron.

Many of Trump's top national security aides, like Tillerson, have argued that the United States is better off with the Iran nuclear deal than without it. I wanted to either break it or do something, and he felt a little bit differently.

The US needs to "stand with our ally Israel and put a stop to terrorism", he said.

In a snub, Tillerson was left out of the loop regarding the North Korean invitation and was on his first trip to Africa when Trump sat down at the White House with a visiting delegation from South Korea last Thursday and agreed to meet Kim.

Mr Trump publicly undercut Mr Tillerson's diplomatic initiatives numerous times, including on Monday when the former secretary of state's comments about Russian Federation appeared to be at odds with those of the White House. "And "... Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!" "It would be antithetical to the relationship that Pompeo has with Trump, right?"

Dr. James Mitchell, an Air Force veteran who got Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, a senior member of al-Qaeda, to spill his secrets, sharply disputed the characterization of the "enhanced intelligence" techniques as torture.

The outgoing diplomat told reporters shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday that he had talked with Trump around lunchtime. Goldstein only lasted 3 months on the job.

More recently, however, he has used Twitter more strategically, often to issue surprise announcements or to shape the political battlefield on issues such as trade and taxes. She offered Pompeo names of two possible alternatives. Trump's tweets also showed that he had little respect for his cabinet colleague.

MCCAMMON: That's Victoria Nuland, a former assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs and now the CEO of the Center for a New American Security.

Pompeo, the former chair of the House Intelligence Committee, was a hardline Tea Party Republican and an early Trump supporter.

The White House insists Mr Tillerson received a phone call on Friday from Chief of Staff John Kelly, who told him that he was being let go. Taking the position of secretary of state would have been a career killer, or at least damaged her otherwise glowing reputation. Shortly afterwards, Trump openly mocked Tillerson for saying the United States should exhaust all diplomatic routes to resolve tension with North Korea before adopting a more confrontational approach. That seems overly optimistic. He has shared the Saudi view that the long and tortuous negotiations in Vienna and Geneva were an Iranian diplomatic masterclass which conned the global community into lifting sanctions in return for time-limited commitments that it never meant to honor anyway.

With a change in management, however, exasperation has been replaced with apprehension that Pompeo, a former Army officer, will prove even more antagonistic towards the principle of diplomacy than his predecessor.
