Trump fired Tillerson on Tuesday after the secretary returned from a trip to Africa, saying he made the decision "by himself" and didn't speak with Tillerson beforehand. Even Senator Dianne Feinstein of California, a Democrat who led the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation into the CIA interrogation program, suggested that she is willing to consider Haspel's nomination. The Senate, he wrote in a tweet, "should not equivocate on rejecting Trump's pro-torture Central Intelligence Agency nominee". The diplomats found this type of guidance about an official statement from the former Under Secretary was "bizzare" and "strange". After being promoted to a more senior position, Haspel drafted an order to shred the tapes, ProPublica reported, and they were eventually destroyed without approval from the White House or Justice Department.
Then the State Department released a statement casting some doubt on whether it's actually true that Tillerson was sacked on Friday.
Trump and Kim have committed to meeting at a time and place to be determined before the end of May to discuss North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. "I think Rex will be much happier now, but I really appreciate his service".
What other interesting thing happened recently that might help explain Tillerson's ouster?
The official said Tillerson's chief of staff, Margaret Peterlin, and deputy chief of staff, Christine Ciccone, had resigned.
Mattis added that mentions of Tillerson's ouster during his recent trip overseas to Bahrain did not "even come up" except from USA reporters asking about the decision. "I get first few ninjas who thought they could take down Uma Thurman in Kill Bill but what was the last guy thinking?" Mr. Tillerson, who was the CEO of ExxonMobil Corporation before taking up the role, did not agree with Mr. Trump on fundamental policy matters, the President said.
Pompeo, a 54-year-old former congressman for Kansas's 4th District, is considered very supportive of Israel. "Good job! I like the way you're drooling", she reportedly told him. "He will continue our program of restoring America's standing in the world, strengthening our alliances, confronting our adversaries, and seeking the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula", Trump said.
Then, at a Wednesday press conference, Sen.
"I look forward to representing him and the American people to the rest of the world to further America's prosperity", Pompeo said.
"The techniques were the same as those used on our own people in the SERE program", she added, before concluding: "No one should slander the fearless men & women who carried out this crucial program".
Back in January, the White House withdrew its nominee to represent the U.S.in South Korea.
Paul also announced to try to block the nomination of Pompeo to succeed Tillerson.
