Oprah Winfrey set for United Kingdom premiere of A Wrinkle In Time

The star-studded adult cast, however, takes a backseat to the children leading the film. "To have her in my corner and inspire me and uplift me has been wonderful". It looked wonderful, diverse, powerful, unique and trippy.

He went on to discuss the early days of DuVernay's career as an admired Hollywood publicist, noting she'd written, produced, and directed "two incredible films, about black women finding hope while experiencing grief and loss, all while maintaining a production and distribution company to finance and distribute underserved independent films made by women and people of color".

Dave Hollis, president of worldwide distribution for Disney, told Variety that "Black Panther" and "A Wrinkle in Time" accounted and inclusion through their portrayals of strong female and minority characters. So many films try to reach every demographic that they can, so it's nice to see a movie that couldn't care less about critics or an audience unaccustomed to this kind of gentle optimism.

Nothing in "A Wrinkle in Time" makes sense.

Meg - who Reid captures easily - is incredibly smart, no doubt due to spending time with her father in the lab. The cause is close to her heart: she was bullied when she was younger. Her younger brother, played by Deric McCabe fairs far better, but the worst offender is Levi Miller as Calvin. In the book, the hippy soothsayer the Mrs. bring Meg & co.to identifies as a woman.

Let's talk about the castingPhoto Mindy Kaling in "A Wrinkle in Time". Who is fun with her quote-laden dialogue and Oprah Winfrey commands the screen as Mrs.

However, being cheesy is ideal for little kids who want to be as strong as Meg and her brother Charles. A Wrinkle in Time is about love, but it presents the emotion as something much bigger than romance and idealized relationships, instead focusing on self-worth and the love of one's own faults as well as virtues.

I laughed at "A Wrinkle in Time" several times, and it's not a comedy. I wanted to be the girl that would be seen as popular and not just "smart". Which in the film, appeared on Good Morning America and surprised Richardson with the announcement that she would donate another $50,000 to Richardson's fundraising efforts. In watching the film, there were feelings of curiosity, sympathy and enjoyment. Just like it's not clear why the people on The It's home planet act in happy, creepy synchronicity or why The It travels the way it does, or why any number of things in the movie happen the way they do. She's made one film that you can call a dud-so have most top filmmakers.

Mrs. Whatsit is the first of the "Misses" characters. What's the significance of Winfrey, Witherspoon and Kaling's weird characters? Meg's father is gone for four years, so fairies show up and take Meg to magical places. It's a push and pull situation that's mostly successful.

The film's costume design and makeup were quite impressive and made it pretty clear that a lot of time, work and money went into making Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Reese Witherspoon look unbelievable. Right away, the film drew both my daughter and I in, with its dazzling colors and surprising plot twists.

"I'm not expecting a one-to-one literalism but something that captures the spirit of the book", Hettinga said. "But to be able to say something in this film to children of all ages ..." In the A Wrinkle in Time book, Meg and Charles Wallace have twin, 10-year-old brothers named Sandy and Dennys. It's an effective message of self-love in young people and the power that family holds on all of us, as well as a showcase for some killer performances.

DuVernay's directorial talent is evident, and she does the novel justice as she walks the tightrope between modernizing a classic and retaining its original magic. The visual effects are another thing that I have to praise.
