State's Wade will miss Big 12 tourney showdown with Kansas

The Kansas State Wildcats and 9th ranked Kansas Jayhawks will square off at the Sprint Center this Friday night in the semifinals of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Championship.

Senior guard Devonte' Graham added 10 points and nine assists for Kansas, which will face Kansas State, a 66-64 overtime victor over TCU, in Friday's semifinals.

Oklahoma State trailed Kansas 43-42 at halftime.

The Cowboys agreed that Kansas came out with more fire than it did Saturday.

It was the Jayhawks' eighth straight win over Kansas State, and they remained ideal in 10 games against their cross-state rival in the Big 12 Tournament. "With the two players gone, we just relaxed and went as the game went".

Thursday, Kansas State didn't foul and the Horned Frogs' Desmond Bane drilled a 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. In his last seven games, Young is averaging nearly 10 points less per game than the near 30-point average he has maintained for most of the season. K-State's band will follow at 4:30 p.m.

But it was the team's method, not its measurables, that left the Jayhawks shaking their heads after the victory, their third of the season over their in-state rivals. Graham is among the conference leaders in assists (7.3), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.6), 3-point field goals made (2.9) and steals (1.7).

He drained a 3-pointer to make it 60-53 with 8½ minutes left, then hit his fifth of the game a few minutes later.

Sosinski's use was made necessary by the injury Kansas' starting center Udoka Azubuike suffered in practice Tuesday. Both teams lost three of their last five games, but only one of the final three losses last season was by greater than 10 points.

That means backup forward Mitch Lightfoot will start in the post, and freshman Silvio De Sousa - who became eligible a couple months ago - will be forced to play more meaningful minutes.

"Whoever we play, there will be unbelievable incentive for somebody other than Kansas to win to get a championship this year", Self said after dispatching Kansas State. Kansas State fell to 20-11 in its 2017-18 campaign.

Kansas State, thought by some to be on the bubble for an entry to the NCAA tournament, pulled out a squeaker in the first game of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday. For example, ESPN has Baylor among the last four in and Oklahoma State among the last four out. Bruce Weber is 2-13 against Kansas, all while at KSU. Robinson contributed 16 points on 6-for-15 shooting, and he finished with seven turnovers - none more costly than the last.

It was hardly a surprise, given the teams split in their regular-season meetings. The Jayhawks defeated the Wildcats, 73-72, on January 13, in Allen Fieldhouse and won 70-56 on January 29, in Manhattan. Still, the Cowboys would demolish the old record for lowest-ranked RPI for an at-large tourney team, which would be effectively admitting their selection process is not what they claim it to be.

Ninth-seeded Oklahoma State (19-14), which beat Oklahoma in the first round on Wednesday, was led by senior guard Jeffrey Carroll with 17 points.

TCU led by nine early in the second half but the game was close throughout. The Wildcats were held to their second-worst shooting night to that point of the season (32.3 percent) and a 6-of-27 clip (22.2 percent) from beyond the 3-point line.

Cook announced Friday that he is seeking to gauge the league's interest after he led Iowa with 15.3 points and 6.8 rebounds a game in 2017-18.

Kenrich Williams led the Horned Frogs (21-11) with 20 points.
