Penn State RB Barkley can do it all

The running back out of Penn State is one of the favorite prospects here in Indianapolis this week for the NFL Scouting Combine.

225 pounds on the bench press.

Here's how Barkley's 29 lifts compares with offensive lineman and other running backs who also did their combine bench press reps Thursday. Barkley also charmed the media in a polished and articulate 15-minute interview session, proving to be as dynamic off the field as he was during three record-breaking seasons in Happy Valley.

Barkley entered the NFL Combine with the hype of ESPN's Todd McShay saying he was the best prospect since Adrian Peterson.

In the 2017 Rose Bowl game, Barkley's 79-yard destruction of USC's defense on a mind-numbing touchdown run launched his Heisman candidacy for the next season. The 21-year-old is a lock to be the first running back drafted and has a good chance to go in the top five.

You're listening to what's being offered and you have to weigh that against Barkley, Chubb or Quenton Nelson, and they're really, really good football players.

Saquon Barkley seems to have sprung to life from the pages of a comic book.

Barkley was a star at Penn State.

Born into a Jets household in the Bronx, Saquon Barkley would sit on his father's lap during games as a child and tell him he would be wearing that green jersey one day. And depending on who has the draft capital to move up, I think you have to listen.

There's a reason many evaluators believe he is the best player in this year's draft class. He said he'd be blessed to play for any team and be picked anywhere. "I'm going to come in with my head low and ready to work".

"You want to be a complete back, " Barkley said.

"If there's a guy worthy of being the second pick of a draft - and what we're basically saying if we answer that question to the affirmative, you're drafting what you think's gonna be a Hall of Fame player - you can't get too cute about the whole thing", Gettleman said.

Barkley's jump was the highest by a running back at the combine since Daniel Lasco had a 41.5-inch vertical jump in 2016. Read on for a recap of our live blog with all the action on the field Friday during RB and OL workouts.

"He is a total freak", said the network's Mike Mayock, a former National Football League player and current analyst. I am not sure but I know the buzz around The Land is he said enough for the fans. So this year they absolutely must address their quarterback situation, and a lot of people think they'll take Josh Allen with the first pick. And Gurley, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year on a bad Rams team, was their identity in last year's breakthrough.

If the Giants are looking for a running back who can do a bit of everything, then Barkley certainly fits the bill.
