More guns 'not the answer' to America's gun problem

It's another week after another mass shooting in the US, and something finally feels different. If it's only that very few mentally ill people who have taken hundreds of lives with assault guns (and by the way, assault means an unlawful attempt or threat to harm another.) How is it working?
Nations around the civilized world look at our inability to stop this carnage with bewilderment.
At the same time, many of my friends are gun owners (including one of my sons-in-law), many are members of the NRA, some of my local colleagues have hide and carry permits, and I have no interest in giving the government more power over our personal lives. In 2016, the NRA contributed $54.3 million to Republican politicians. "They", in fact, may not even conceive of mass shootings to be an argument against guns.
Appearing relaxed and confident, the teen confronted the one-time presidential candidate, who has received funding from the powerful National Rifle Association (NRA) pro-gun lobby: "Senator Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future?" That history is well documented for all to see. And do not forget that famous Second Amendment, what would our forefathers say if they saw how it is being used to protect those inalienable rights?
So, asking these people to put down these types of guns is like asking an addict to put down his needle. In 35 states, a domestic abuser can be proven to be a violent person, legally recognized as an abuser and continue to have a house full of firearms.
But there is a key word in this debate that must be defined: "reasonable". Asked what it would take to buy one on the spot, a salesman replied, "If you have a Florida driver's license and a concealed weapons permit, you can walk out with one today". These restrictions are already in place. Scalia wrote that the operative clause, "The right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed", should be read to "guarantee an individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation".
"Finally, they can buy only shotguns and air rifles - no handguns - and must retake the class and the initial exam every three years". Absolutely it is - for sport and also for self-defense. Whether or not specific terminology "should" matter, it does to numerous people you may argue against, who may assume you don't know your subject matter if you think AR stands for assault or automatic rifle.
But the AR-15s, or an AK-47 machine gun, were designed as a military weapon to kill high numbers of people in battle, but which are being used all too frequently in mass shootings in the United States. Can't we find some common ground to restrict such purchases?
While all this BS is going on, the next gunman intent on killing our children is in the process of purchasing an automatic weapon to carry into a school near you. According to statistics compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and analyzed by John Lott - American economist, political commentator, and gun rights advocate - permit holders are more law abiding than the general public and have fewer firearms violations than police officers.
There are signs of hope. Not only to addressing American deaths, but also a solution for gun control advocates trying to have a constructive conversation with people who aren't.
When Congress did nothing regarding the Roberts court's decision to disconnect the prefatory clause, "a well-regulated militia being necessary for the security of the state", from the rest of the Second Amendment, we helped pervert its intention and gave gun manufacturers free rein and license to government. If there is one group of people who are not afraid to speak truth to power, it is children, for they have not yet become fully political persons with lying political ways. Trump discussed mental health care in his official response, which he proposed decreasing funding for in his 2019 budget proposal. My only goal is to put some propositions on the table and see if we can all agree.
