Overnight ratings show downtown for Daytona 500

Dillon grew up idolizing Earnhardt, who drove the famous No. 3 for Childress out of the race shop in Welcome.

It's hard to top the one Dillon provided in the 60th running of the Great American Race, when he nudged Aric Almirola on the final lap and brought Earnhardt's famed No. 3 back to glory at Daytona International Speedway. Almirola spun out. Dillon held off Wallace to lead his only lap of the day - the final one.

"I really try to stick with things that are told in a way that I am celebrating him, and Goodyear and his relationship with Goodyear was really strong when he was racing", Earnhardt Jr. said.

Austin Dillon ended up in Victory Lane, a changed man, no doubt.

The No. 3 is No. 1 again at Daytona, on a day, in a race and at a place forever linked with the great Dale Earnhardt. We've got an incredible race team and I'm gonna go to Atlanta and we're gonna have good race cars there and we'll have a shot to win next week. Childress was visibly overcome with emotions during a TV interview with Fox.

"There is nothing predictable about this race any more, and the more years that have gone by that I didn't win I kept trying to go back to patterns that I had seen in the past", Kurt said after the win. Darrell Wallace Jr., driving for seven-time series champion and seven-time Daytona 500 victor Richard Petty, finished second. "All in all a great day".

To all of our loyal fans, thank you for all of the support this offseason. Hell of an ending for us tonight.

"I saw him come with the momentum and I pulled up to block and did exactly what I needed to do to try to win the Daytona 500", Almirola said. A six-car wreck on Lap 102 knocked Danica Patrick out of the race. Alex Bowman, Brendan Gaughan, Matt DiBenedetto and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. were also invovled. This will be the first time in his career that Almirola will be in a championship-caliber organization. It nearly marks 17th year since the final-lap crash in 2001 that took Earnhardt Sr.'s life while Junior finished second in a sprint to the finish.

Caution Flags: 8 for 37 laps.

Overtime was set up by a wild final 10 laps of regulation in which one of three big wrecks to occur Sunday took out a slew of contenders.

"It's been interesting, though, seeing it from this perspective, and this race is going to be so interesting, obviously, with what the cars have been like for the guys driving them". Keselowski was not happy.

"They nearly threw the idea out the window and I said, 'Come on, we've really got to have this, '" Jeffrey Earnhardt said about getting into racing. We had a great auto and were in a great position. I've been aware of that my whole career and I don't want people to think I've ever taken advantage of my last name, or done anything that my Daddy wouldn't appreciate. I went to pass the 24 on the bottom and he came down.
