As of 3 p.m., Birmingham's maximum temperature today was 78; that ties the record high for February 20, last set in 1986.

ACROSS THE USA: Several days of heavy rainfall will lead to flash flooding and river flooding from the Southern Plains to the Southern Great Lakes.
Freezing rain is likely Friday evening as well. We turn milder Saturday with highs in the low 50s, but are still mostly cloudy. High pressure overhead looks to work as a blocker and keep the front to the north and west of us.
Scattered showers and a few storms will become more likely late Wednesday night into Thursday.
The weather service says record highs are expected throughout southern New England on Wednesday, when temperatures should be in the 70s. That means we can expect a soaking rain. Highs return to the upper 60s. We'll see some winds pick up Saturday ahead of the next system with the chance for snow showers.
