Canada to battle arch-rival US for women's Olympic hockey gold

Canada clinched its spot in the final with a 5-0 win over the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation.

Team USA has not beaten Team Canada in the Olympics since 1998, which also happens to be the last - and only - time the Americans won gold.

The Americans were a bit unschooled early on in the semifinal.

The first of the two Olympics women's hockey semifinal games went precisely as expected.

After Canada scored once and pulled its goalie, a puck shot the length of the ice by a US forward skidded toward the empty net and hit the post.

They last lost the gold medal against the Nagano in 1998, the first year that women's ice hockey appeared in the Games. "I mean, this is my third time going to a gold medal game, a lot of our third times". I was out watching the U-18s play. and I was motivated by how they were moving the puck. Lamoureux-Davidson said they simply need to bury their chances. "This is what we came here to do".

"It was absolutely unbelievable, this year I've struggled a little bit in that department but my teammates have done nothing but build me up", said Clark after the game.

Barring a historic upset in the other semifinal, the Americans will meet archrival Canada for gold for the third consecutive Olympics.

Before Canada's semi-final game against Russian Federation began on Monday, the USA players were already looking forward to a rematch, given what happened in Sochi.

"I look at the shots on goal and we maybe had 39 tonight", Stauber said.

One of the favorites in the men's slopestyle was American Gus Kenworthy, the silver medalist at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. The German team losing control as they crossed the finish line. Alexandrova did well to settle OAR over the next several minutes, but her clean sheet fell by the wayside when Rebecca Johnston scored a power play goal with six minutes remaining to complete a 5-0 Canadian victory.

"[The players] live together and train full-time, much like the United States", she said. In the semi's, the American onslaught started early, when Gigi Marvin, on an assist from captain Meghan Duggan, scored just over two minutes into the game. Then with 1:22 left in the first period, Cameranesi stole a Finland pass and whipped the puck past Raty.

Hilary Knight added a goal of her own just 34 seconds later as she redirected Sidney Morin's shot from the point.

Danielle Cameranesi #24 celebrates her goal with teammate Maddie Rooney #35 against Finland in the women's ice hockey semifinals at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 on February 19, 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea. "We're ready to go to battle in a couple days". "If anyone watches our bench. we love it when our teammates score. We got all of the above tonight, other than a shortie, and maybe that's in our future". So, we knew what we were getting.

Savolainen was eventually helped off, with one person under each arm, her legs dangling beneath her.

In the two-man bobsled, the Canadians had to share a gold medal with Germany in a rare dead heat.
