Duke men's basketball sustains energy in second half for rare complete game

Virginia Tech won last season at home against Duke. But defense was the difference for the Cavaliers, who limited an opponent to 50 points or less for the 12th time.

Miami is 12-9 all-time against Virginia, including 7-1 in Coral Gables.

Miami would seem to be in a good spot in terms of its NCAA Tournament resume, sitting at 24th in the RPI as of Monday morning, but the schedule down the stretch is tough, with all six of its remaining games against teams either in the mix for NCAA bids (Notre Dame, Boston College), on either side of the tourney bubble (Syracuse, Virginia Tech) or are tourney locks (UVA, North Carolina).

Like last year, Virginia's scoring offense was ranked around 300, but also similar to a year ago, the scoring defense is No. 1 in the nation, with the 2017-18 squad giving up 56 ppg. Allen scored 23 points, including 10-of-10 from the free-throw line against the Yellow Jackets on Sunday.

Duke led 36-28 at halftime and then used a 13-2 run over 5:52 to increase the lead to 25 points in the second half. Allen tied his career high with seven 3-pointers. He also missed a victory at Georgia Tech on Sunday night.

This young Blue Devil team has struggled to find a consistent rhythm and maintain its focus for entire games this season-either playing well in the first half and not the second, or vice versa. According to KenPom, this is the 20th lowest win probability this season that a team has had before going on to be victorious.

With the Cavaliers up with over one minute to go, Virginia Tech's Kerry Blackshear Jr. grabbed an offensive rebound with under six seconds left in overtime, made the shot, and was fouled - giving the Hokies a 61-60 lead as time ran out. VT did well at protecting the ball in the first half with only 2 turnovers compared to 8 for Duke, but VT matched Duke's first half turnover mark with 8 second half turnovers that prevented them from really finding any rhythm.

AMES, Iowa - Udoka Azubuike scored 19 points, Malik Newman had 17 and Kansas bounced back from a brutal loss at Baylor. Grayson went 9-17 from the floor, 7-15 from beyond the arc. This could be attributed to the zone Duke played all game, as well as the heart and hustle by post players like DeLaurier and Carter. Bagley leads the ACC with averages of 21.2 points and 11.4 rebounds. The longest ever was 22 games over two seasons in 1937-38 and 1938-39.

Between Bagley's absence from the court and a two-game losing skid, the Blue Devils had plenty of motivation in that game. "Coach said, shoot as many shots as you have to shoot because you're going to be open".

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Kassius Robertson scored 16 points, Jordan Barnett added 15 and Missouri pushed its winning streak to five games.

Saturday's home foe-Syracuse-is now ninth in conference, while a road game against 12th-seeded Notre Dame seems less daunting against an Irish squad now 5-8 in ACC play. "I don't think they could've handled anything better", Williams said of his team's two-win response since losing to Miami on February 3.
