Winter Olympics 2018: Does This American Curler Really Look Like Mario?

The last time Matt and Becca Hamilton faced off against Russian Federation in mixed doubles curling was at the 2017 World Championships, a match in which they were defeated 7-5.

Vernon curling star Jim Cotter is at the Olympics.

Team USA will be led by sibling duo Matt and Becca Hamilton who could potentially rack up over 50 hours of live play, which would be the longest of any athlete in the Winter Games.

Morris and Lawes opened the day with a 10-4 win over China's Rui Wang and Dexin Ba, then routed Finland 8-2.

'Mixed doubles, you're never safe with a three-point lead, anyone can score big ends, ' Becca said.

The 2017 world championship super-g bronze medallist, Osborne-Paradis missed a gate in the middle of the course and said it was "by no means a flawless run".

The Hamiltons started playing together about three years ago, when it was announced mixed doubles would be coming to the Olympics. Really happy being out on the ice and it paid off for us'. "So we'll have to tighten up a bit and hopefully get a win tomorrow". The organizers reportedly avoided calling the event the "Olympic Winter Games" to avoid conflicts with the "Nordic Games" held by Scandinavian countries-they feared that athletes from winter sports powerhouses like Sweden wouldn't attend if the new competition seemed to be detracting from the importance of their home Games.

John Morris and Kaitlyn Lawes were defeated 9-6 by Norway's Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten.

Canadian coach Jeff Stoughton said he expects continued improvement. "These other players from Canada are very good and have a lot of experiences", he said.

An Olympic curler is getting attention online due to his striking resemblance to a video game character.

However, the umpire refused to measure the two stones and ruled it one shot to the Chinese team, forcing an extra end. "I think all of them are medal contenders and it should be exciting to see how things end up". There had been "very substantial" testing ahead of the Games, he said.

For much of their team curling careers they have both played the third position.

The top two mixed doubles curling teams in PyeongChang met in round robin play Friday night, but in the end Canada proved why they're the No. 1 team in the world, defeating Switzerland 7-2.

"To be able to slide over the Olympic rings and to feel as though we're part of something historic is really powerful and special", said Lawes.
