"If you're a Philadelphian, you accept the reality that you're living in a Road Runner cartoon", Ray Didinger, the Pro Football Hall of Fame-recognized scribe who has been to more Eagles games than anyone, told ESPN.
The Philadelphia Eagles squeezed by the Oakland Raiders on Monday night 19-10, effectively clinching the top overall playoff spot in the NFC and home-field advantage on through to Super Bowl LII. His performance sparked an impressive turnaround and the Eagles went 7-1 in the second half after a 3-5 start to win the NFC East title in Chip Kelly's first season. The defense struggled in a 34-29 win at the New York Giants last week. The best part of the Raiders offense came on the ground, an unusual stat this season in Oakland.
"We take the win and move on, but by no means are we satisfied", Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins said. While we got to see some great play out of this new-look defense of John Pagano, the offense lacked any sort of balance whatsoever. After an incomplete pass, Elliott nailed his kick right down the middle.
Derek Barnett returned a fumble 23 yards for a touchdown after picking up a lateral on Oakland's final play from scrimmage.
Eagles live stream, start time, betting odds and TV information for Monday's National Football League matchup between Oakland and Philadelphia on Christmas Day. Foles HAS to be better if the Eagles are seriously going to make a run at a Super Bowl.
AC/DC struck early on this handsome, 63-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to Amari Cooper. Three incomplete passes short of eight yards and then the hot-potato play.
Pederson knows he can't afford to lose Foles to an injury and expect his team to survive a second-round playoff game with Nate Sudfeld leading the huddle, but he also knows that three weeks of nothing but practice reps isn't the tonic for Foles to rebound from his Christmas crisis. "I've got to play cleaner".
Carr was even worse. Tavarres King went for two touchdowns on two catches while Shephard accumulated 139 yards and a touchdown.
"Listen, you don't get these times back", he said. "We got to help [the defense] out". But even five takeaways by Jim Schwartz's revived defense over the course of the Raiders' final eight series nearly wasn't enough for the Birds, who fell short on all but one of 14 third-down plays, gained a season-low 216 yards and somehow barely eclipsed an inept Derek Carr in the game's final minute.
Another terrible loss. Another head-scratcher from Derek Carr.
It feels like Carr is throwing too much on his shoulders with Oakland's other offensive weapons, namely running back Marshawn Lynch and wide receiver Amari Cooper, flat-out underachieving. He nearly became the first running back to reach 100 yards against Philadelphia since October 2016. Philadelphia head coach opted to have quarterback Nick Foles take a knee instead of attempting the extra point just to end the ball game.
The Eagles scored on the ensuing possession when Foles tossed a 17-yard TD pass to Ajayi for a 7-0 lead. Three-headed rushing attack of LeGarrette Blount (717), Jay Ajayi (356) and Corey Clement (307) has combined for 1,380 yards rushing and seven TDs. Nelson Agholor dropped a downfield pass. Ertz had a high pass go off his hands that was picked off. It was the longest active streak in the NFL. He was running toward the goal line with 31 seconds left, in position to put the Raiders in front when he fumbled the ball. Similar to Carson Wentz, Foles is having a hard time connecting with Alshon Jeffery early on.
The Oakland Raiders (6-9) close out their 2017 season against their division rival Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday.
