NFL playoffs: Eagles knock off Falcons, 15-10

Next Sunday, the Eagles will host either Minnesota or New Orleans to decide which N.F.C. team will play in the Super Bowl on February 4. They went 2-1 with Nick Foles, losing a meaningless game in Week 17 after starters only played one quarter.

The Eagles dispatched the sixth-seeded Atlanta Falcons 15-10 Saturday in the divisional playoffs at Lincoln Financial Field. They used it as motivation and now it's onto the next one as they continue pursuit of the franchise's first Super Bowl title.

"What it feel like", defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan said of the people who picked against them. "Find a way to win and we did".

The Falcons, of course, memorably blew a 28-3 second-half lead to the New England Patriots in last year's Super Bowl.

"Since that point Carson went down, nobody has given us a chance", coach Doug Pederson said. "That's why we put all of the hard work we put in". When you get in those situations, you want the ball in your hands. I'm not saying he's bad, but I'm far from comfortable with him, especially with Foles as kind of a statue back there.

Overall, Foles completed 77 percent of his passes - 23-for-30 - for 246 yards without a touchdown or interception. When a team has the front lines the Eagles have, anchored by Lane Johnson and Fletcher Cox, and can cover a lot ground defensively, it can recognize how simply getting Foles in a comfortable flow can go a long way. There's going to be criticism. That'll always be there, but we block that out. The drive started at the Philadelphia 18-yard line because Eagles linebacker Bryan Braman made contact with the ball on an Atlanta punt, setting up the Falcons in prime field position.

Falcons coach Dan Quinn seemed to search for a polite term to compare Eagles fans with the fans the team heard in last week's wild-card win at the Los Angeles Rams.

The Atlanta Falcons are not your average six seed.

Star receiver Jones had a strong game with nine receptions for 101 yards.

"I am very humbled to win this game and to be a part of this team", Foles said after the game. "Anything more we can use to motivate us, well use".

The Eagles can help take some of the pressure off Foles with a heavy dose of Jay Ajayi. Freeman had only 7 yards on his 10 carries. He did have 44 yards receiving on three catches.

"We had a great two weeks of practice, and I think that's the big thing". "It never feels good to lose". A lot of the teammates picked up the slack.

There's no reason the Falcons can't play zone defenses when they stack the box. He spent this season as the Bills vice president of player personnel. Really, that play served as the best way to sum up the Falcons' disappointing year. Instead, Jake Elliott would kick a 21-yard field goal, meaning Ryan would need to direct a touchdown drive for the victory. Honestly, it's unbelievable to win this game.

"It was definitely tricky out there, just really gusty (wind)", Elliott said.

The pass was incomplete and the Eagles took control of the ball to seal the game.
