Ravens miss playoffs with 31-27 loss to Bengals

There are a number of former Lewis proteges who are current National Football League head coaches, including Mike Zimmer, Hue Jackson, Jay Gruden, and Vance Joseph. A line of 9.5 seems high and ignores the emotion the Bengals showed in eliminating an NFC playoff contender on Christmas Eve.

"We were looking for a miracle, and the miracle was Andy Dalton", said Mike Cipriani, vice president of DFW Bills Backers and a Buffalo native who has lived in North Texas for 20 years. The Packers finished with a losing record for the first time since 2008 but will get star quarterback Aaron Rodgers back from a collarbone injury. "We just came up short". That part isn't perfectly clear, but that's the assumption. Finally, the Bengals burned the defense when it mattered most.

Sounds familiar right? That's the exact same way Baltimore was ousted from the playoff picture this year as they gave up a game-winning touchdown in the final minute of a 31-27 loss to Cincinnati, Sunday.

Naturally, the feet-dragging Cincinnati Bengals are the only team that has yet to confirm whether its coach will be back or not, so we'll include that as an opening with an asterisk for now as we list the gigs from least to most attractive.

But it's not certain where things stand now.

If all you want is a profitable organization, Lewis is the ideal coach. Lewis indicated that he and Brown will talk more, as they have done pretty much every day the past 15 seasons. But Lewis suggested the discussions would have to entail more than a simple offer to return from management.

"And if his direction is different than my direction, then that's probably not good", Lewis said, via ESPN's Katherine Terrell.

And then he paused for a moment. Noll went on to win four Lombardi Trophies in the 1970s that provided job security as he entered the 1980s.

"[Dalton] just threw a good pass between me and the safety", linebacker C.J. Mosley said of the game victor. "I think we all had blinders on going out there". Instead, the team has given him a two year extension as head coach.

After the regular season finale on Sunday, he reiterated that he wanted to return to the team.

Ending weeks of speculation that his lengthy tenure as the Bengals' head coach was over, Lewis was signed to a two-year contract that runs through the 2019 season, the team announced Tuesday.

They were in with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. There was an expectation that Lewis would transition into a front office role with Cincinnati rather than continuing to coach. His contract was expiring. After two more non-playoff seasons, Lewis took the Bengals to the postseason in 2005.

"He wasn't overly emotional after the game", Dalton said. It appears as if two former Lewis lieutenants, Hue Jackson or Jay Gruden, will remain in their head-coaching posts in Cleveland and Washington. After the 2010 season, both he and Lewis faced a crossroads following a 4-12 season. The Ravens picked 16th past year. We don't yet know. Coaches and people in the organization, expecting Lewis to leave, were surprised and pleased to learn he would be staying, according to sources.
