Is Bill Belichick really considering coaching the New York Giants?

Bill Belichick said Monday he "absolutely" plans to return to the New England Patriots next season. But if you went through National Football League locker rooms and got honest answers, you'd find that a player being bothered with at least one of his coaches over criticism is as common as chinstraps.

What did you know and when did you know it, Don Yee? "As the representatives of baseball and the World Series champs, when the White House calls and invites you to come up, it's something that as an organization we felt both a responsibility and an obligation to be part of", Astros president of business operations Reid Ryan said.

Actually, there probably is less of a chance of this happening than there is of Brian Hoyer starting at quarterback Saturday night.

This is definitely a situation to keep an eye on. He is regarded as a thoughtful and serious representative who prioritizes his clients' wishes, sometimes at the expense of his commission. Feel free to imagine it, but try not to get too excited.

New England is sitting out Wild Card Weekend for the eighth straight season after going 13-3 en route to capturing an AFC East title and home-field advantage in the AFC playoffs. Let's also not forget that Brady's determination to stay on top is basically what forced the Jimmy Garoppolo trade.

On Friday, ESPN published a story detailing tension within the Patriots' organization, specifically between Brady, Belichick and owner Robert Kraft. Even if Belichick does silently and secretly want to bail on New England and return to NY, the path between hope and reality is too long and winding.

According to the story, the trade provided relief for Brady, 40, who saw Garoppolo as a threat. That would likely be the baseline for the Patriots in any negotiations involving the far more accomplished Belichick. And if there's any truth to Wickersham's report, the time to make a move is now.

"I think if he had to have another dream job outside of the one he has, I think in the depths of his heart, the Giants are still there", Banks said.

Robert Kraft and quarterback Tom Brady prior to the Boston Red Sox Opening Day game at Fenway Park.

Kraft also dismissed talk that he would consider trading Belichick to any team. And the Patriots just traded potential future franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, so Brady's job is safe. As for whether they could be a distraction, Brady said: "Along with winning and great success comes a lot of things".

That escalated quickly. So what changed? It's unknown whether or not they talked to Belichick directly. Did it happen in the meeting with Kraft that Wickersham detailed and the Patriots are semantically denying? Sure, it's hard to ever get a gauge on him.

I hope we know the full story someday. I don't have any information that tells me he's even available.

You heard it right, Giants fans. I welcome this and think it is normal and healthy in all careers, because it helps everyone learn, grow, and improve.
