49ers remain winless after overtime loss in Indianapolis

Mack brings big play ability to the National Football League and that was fully on display against the 49ers.

Brissett capped a six-play, 75-yard drive with 9:56 remaining, extending the Indianapolis lead to 23-9, using a 63-yard pass to Hilton and a 16-yard Mack run to the 49ers' 1-yard line as the catalyst. Hey, it's progress. It's just not enough to win. Indy has lost five straight against NFC West. Colts face winless team for third time in four weeks. Hogan finished 16 of 19 for 192 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. At some point, the 49ers probably will win a game, but even if they don't, losing in a way that shows some steps forward would be a welcome sign for those tracking this season based on progress. "That was very frustrating throughout the game - we had a number of opportunities", Shanahan said.

And, as usual, they blew those chances. Capable. He carved the Rams up for 332 yards on 23 of 37 passing, with two touchdowns and one interception.

And in that game, Hoyer looked competent. Apparently, a 15-10 lead is not what the Colts wanted at the break because they came out in the second half and laid an egg.

Pass rush vanishes: The 49ers couldn't get to Jacoby Brissett in overtime.

It still wasn't good enough.

San Francisco is one of four teams that has yet to win a game this season. And for the second consecutive week the 49ers lost in gut-wrenching fashion. Hoyer's first miscue was an attempted handoff (or play fake) to Kyle Jusczcyk, and Carlos Hyde later fumbled a pitch from Hoyer.

"We have three backs that are up, and we try to give them all carries and go with the hot hand". We found a way in overtime.

The Colts defense wilted too in the second half.

The Colts' game-winning field goal was 52 yards courtesy of Adam Vinatieri, the ageless kicker who was 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points on the day.

Cornerbacks hurt: Rashard Robinson suffered from cramps and got victimized repeatedly on the Colts' initial overtime series. "We'll take it right now any way we can".

"You have to just find a way to stop the bleeding". It was only one part of his milestone day. But it is a different story for the Colts secondary, as they got lit up like a Christmas tree from the Christmas Story. Both played pretty well. That puts him at 13,304 rushing yards over his career, which ranks him seventh on the all-time rushing list - surpassing Eric Dickerson.

The test Sunday will be to succeed without two of their key special-teams performers: safety Adrian Colbert and linebacker Dekoda Watson, who won't be available because of injury. And as a unit, the 49ers offense is averaging just 298 yards per game - twenty-ffith in the league.

HOUSTON - Alex Smith threw for 324 yards and three touchdowns to help the Kansas City Chiefs remain undefeated with a 42-34 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday night in a game where J.J. Watt broke his left leg. On Sunday, he connected from 28, 43, and 40 yards away.

The 49ers now return to the Bay Area to get ready for another long trip to Washington next weekend.
