Walker threw 48 pitches in the inning - 38 before he recorded his first out. That aggression would pay off later for them as four of their overall five hits against Kershaw came off swinging at the first pitch.
Kershaw's average fastball velocity this season was 93.1 miles per hour, but his first pitch Friday night was 94. Pitchers will take solo shots any day of the week especially if they have big leads as Kershaw did. Last time he faced them was September 4, when he took a ideal game into the sixth inning and ended with the following line: 7.2 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 14 K. An overall decent line that won't reflect how well he threw tonight.
Taijuan Walker will make his postseason debut in Game 1 for Arizona against Clayton Kershaw, stepping up after Arizona was forced to use presumptive Game 1 starter Robbie Ray in relief against Colorado.
"I just didn't have much left", said Kershaw, who is lined up to start again, on extra rest, in a potential Game 5 or, if the Dodgers get their way and end this series early, Game 1 of the NL Championship.
Kept their foot on the gas.
Christian Walker batted.309 with 32 homers for Triple-A Reno, but he has only 39 career at-bats in the big leagues. Turner has reached base safely in 16 of his last 17 postseason games, hitting.397 during that stretch. The offense is led by ROY candidate Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner and Corey Seager, and the Dodgers have one of the best closers in the game to compliment a strong pen.
"If there is a Game 4, Alex Wood will start Game 4", Roberts said.
Walker was done after the first inning, but the D-backs' reinforcements didn't slow the Dodgers down for long. Stripling pitched more relief innings than any Dodgers pitcher this season but he had a 6.08 ERA over his final 13 appearances.
When the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched the first of their five consecutive NL West titles in Phoenix four years ago, they infamously celebrated by jumping into the Chase Field pool, angering a few Arizona Diamondbacks and their fans.
To be honest, the Dodgers have no need to fear any matchup. "So they've got a deep starting staff".
Chicago: Last year's best team by far - and the ultimate champs - were not quite as good this year.
