Trevor Bauer, Indians shutout Yankees to take Game 1, 4-0

Prediction: Indians in 4. This set up a three run line drive shot to right field by Didi Gregorius with one out that tied that game up at 3-3 after the first inning.

In Game 1 on Thursday, should the Yankees find themselves in another slugfest in Cleveland, he likely won't have that option. The Indians' Twitter account wasn't going to let them off the hook, though.

Plenty of Cuyahoga-area heads were scratched over Cleveland's decision to start Trevor Bauer in Game 1 instead of a rested Corey Kluber, who was baseball's best pitcher in 2017.

Per Brooks Baseball, Bauer's curveball accounted for 29 percent of his pitches in 2017. He's 17-9 with a 4.19 ERA.

He's done a nice job against the Twins and Yankees as well. If Sabathia pitches like he did in his final regular-season start against the Blue Jays (5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K), maybe, just maybe, the Yanks can beat Kluber and take a 2-0 lead heading back home. Greg Bird and Aaron Hicks each chipped in an RBI, while Gary Sanchez went 2 for 4 with a double in the win.

Whatever happens, it makes what could at times feel like a regular-season slog worth it. Fans will be treated to the Indians and Yankees in an ALDS, which nearly feels criminal.

"Being up 1-0 in a short series with your ace coming back, bodes well, I think", Bruce said.

James rallied behind the Indians all last season and even took to his media platform "UNINTERRUPTED" in earnest after the team suffered a crushing defeat in Game 7 of the 2016 World Series against the Cubs.

The series stays in Cleveland for Game 2, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. ET Friday evening.

Here's why the Tribe and manager Tito Francona get deliver a knockout to the Yankees. In 11 starts with the Yankees, Gray has given up two or fewer earned runs eight times. But the Cleveland Indians, believe it or not, are the popular pick to go all the way this season, thanks to their historically good pitching staff. The ALCS starts on October 13.

"It gives you the home field, but no, it doesn't", Pluto said. For the Yankees, this was a strength much of the year (3.34 ERA, third best in baseball), and Tuesday night was no exception.

Bruce almost caught Encarnacion on the bases, and as he finished a home-run trot that was more of a sprint, Cleveland's fans hollered "Bruuuuuuuce" like a crowd at a Springsteen concert. He has been lights out in his six career starts against the Astros going 5-1 with a 1.31 ERA.

This still is the Indians' series to lose, and the Yankees can't expect a barrage of home runs from Judge and co. Three batters would hit a home run in their first appearance in the Wild Card game. The Dodgers have Clayton Kershaw, the runaway NL Cy Young favorite and one of the best pitchers of the generation. Giovanny Urshela flied out to end the inning.

In center field, Jason Kipnis scrambles to make a spectacular diving catch to retire Chase Headley in the third and keep the Yankees looking for their first hit.

The roster has a lot of moving parts, a lot of flexibility. The Twins lost 103 games previous year. But is it as desperate?

For the second straight year, LeBron James and the Cavaliers came to the ballpark to root on the Indians, their downtown next-door neighbors. No Brantley, no Carrasco, no Salazar.
