Harry Kane's late goal seals England World Cup qualification

England have progressed through to their 15th World Cup following a slender, and soulless, 1-0 victory over Slovenia, meaning they can't be caught at the summit of qualifying Group F.

Captain Harry Kane scored in injury time early Friday (Thailand time) to give England a 1-0 win over Slovenia and a ticket to Russian Federation for World Cup 2018.

Gareth Southgate's men booked their ticket to Russian Federation 2018 thanks to Thursday's late 1-0 victory over Slovenia at Wembley. 'We will need to defend on him really strictly, maybe sometimes put two defenders on him, ' he said.

England are to play fellow World Cup finalists Germany and Brazil in back-to-back matches at Wembley in November.

"Congratulations to England", he said.

At Wembley, meanwhile, Harry Kane continued England's trend of scoring late, late goals. "Of course we'd have liked to have played more fluidly and scored more goals".

England need one win from their two remaining matches to seal top spot in Group F and automatic qualification for next year's World Cup in Russian Federation. It is a tough loss for England's midfield, but Southgate has an adequate arsenal on his squad.

Jamie Redknapp has urged England to finally perform on the big stage after securing qualification for the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Goalscorer Kane added: "It feels wonderful to get there, it's no easy feat, there's some other top countries around the world struggling to qualify".

England's first serious opportunity of the match came in the 26th minute when Jordan Henderson found space inside the Slovenia box, but the Liverpool captain saw his effort saved by Oblak.

England, who haven't missed a World Cup since 1994, could still be joined in Russian Federation next year by neighbour Scotland. "My players deserve congratulations as well, they played a decent game and can be proud". They are the only team with a negative goal difference in the play-off table, however.

There are nine European qualifying groups for the tournament in Russian Federation, and nations that finish at the top qualify automatically. "There are one or two players we want to look at, but we want to continue building towards the World Cup".
